Jan 25, 2017 Hi all, I know this sounds trivial but one of the license plates lights has gone out on my 2014 GC. In 2014 (lucky me) they went to an LED instead of a bulb. The dealer wants $130 for the LED part which is insane. I have searched pretty extensively but can't find a replacement anywhere. Has anyone run into this and had any success finding a replacement

I wonder how much trust should be put in dealers. It's a thirty second job. I wonder where FCA is or if they even give a darn. Joined Jan 21, 2017 · 6 Posts

Discussion Starter · #7 · Jan 26, 2017 Update: I ordered the license plate light from the Mopar site and got back a cancellation notice today with this... Hello Paul, Can't win. $112 so my license plate shows up at night. Joined Dec 2, 2016 · 747 Posts
Well that's a bit discouraging. I would assume the "kit" includes BOTH lights? Joined Jan 21, 2017 · 6 Posts
Discussion Starter · #9 · Jan 26, 2017 It does, but he wasn't sure if the "kit" included anything other than the 2 LED's. I can't imagine it would but the word "kit" sounds like 2 led's a wiring harness and switches . I suppose it's meant to sound like the cost justifies it.

The kit is the harness and 2 LEDs. I had to replace mine just about 2 months ago. Joined Jun 20, 2014 · 1,278 Posts
Wow, so that means 2014+ are going to go thru that issue. That is really interesting. But FCA cant put HIDs in all wk2 trims... Joined Jun 7, 2017 · 1 Posts
My LED plate marker assembly lights went today, same thing. I find it incredibly frustrating that had this been a regular bulb socket, I could have bought a pair of LED bulbs for $12, but instead I am prompted to spend $300+ by my dealer. I've found this kit online from MOPAR for $108, but even that is infuriating for TINY LIGHTS. I could see if
the lights tied into the CPU and I got a notification a bulb was out, but making these assemblies a circuit board LED is just a way to screw the average consumer into paying absurd amounts of $ to replace them when they go. Venting aside, does anyone know if there is there a way I can downgrade the assembly to the standard bulb harness I would guess might come in the older generations? I'd love to put these in and not have to deal with a repeat scneario due to a bad harness or something:

I have had the same thing happen on my 2014 Jeep GC. Didn't even know they were out until I got stopped by a Trooper. Fortunately I only received a warning. Dealership wants $200 to replace and, of course, warranty on vehicle has expired. Grrrr. I have toyed with buying the LED lights with a wiring harness that will plug into the DC outlet in the cargo
area. Only to find out that the DC outlet doesn't work either!! (No, it's not a blown fuse, I checked). So, basically I'm avoiding driving after dark until I can come up with a solution...

I'm not affiliated with this place but I've never had a problem retrofitting stuff with their products: superbrigtleds. Just figure out what your draw is, order a similar, and push forward. It's worth a shot. Joined Sep 19, 2015 · 25 Posts
so is the only way to replace one of these bulbs to go with the $122 kit...literally just to get the led modules i need?

Has anyone figured out a work around for this? I just noticed my right side is out. Really don't want to drop the coin for the "kit" when I just need the right side bulb. Joined Oct 30, 2016 · 10 Posts
I currently have 1 light out and the other flickers, so its ready. Dealership wanted just under $500 for parts and labor. I just spent $175 ordering the whole kit from Rock Auto. Im going to pull the panel and take a peak at it tomorrow and see about replacing it. Cant believe the price for a small wiring harness and 2 led bulbs. CRAZY!! Joined Oct 30, 2016 · 10 Posts
Well, I just saved myself $200 on the install of this kit. Installation was pretty simple. Took about 20 mins once I figured out what I had to do. Popped inside panel off, unscrewed about 12 nuts from the inside. Took off both rear lights from hatch and also had to remove the outside panel that has Jeep emblem on it. Everything went right back into
place and all is good. Now hopefully this new harness wont be faulty like the factory one and the LEDs will last forever like they should. How do I change the bulb in my license plate?Grab the light bulbs with your fingers, and pull them straight out of the bases to remove them. If the light bulbs don't come out easily, look for plastic or metal tabs holding them in place. Hold the tabs down with your finger or a screwdriver while you pull the light bulbs out.
