Top critical review1.0 out of 5 starsBEWARE OF MAJOR PRODUCT DEFECT - TEST BEFORE INSTALLING! HAPPENED TO OTHER US BUYERS! Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 24, 2020 We bought one on 09-18th and my son-in-law installed it a few days ago. I forget to test it before mounting it on a wooden plate on a tree, breaking my own rule for these devices. After installation it did not work, but we thought it needed time to charge up. Instead, it has a major defect, one reported by others. Unfortunately, I found this out 4 days after the 30 day return period. HERE IS THE DEFECT: The Solar Power Panel when plugged in, prohibits the motion sensor from turning on the LED Panel. THis is an odd and unusual defect, probably in the main controller board of the unit. The Solar Panel does charge the battery, but for the unit to work as a motion-activated floodlight, (and this is hard to believe), you actually HAVE TO UNPLUG THE SOLAR POWER PANEL where it plugs into the controller/battery pack. Once the 12VDC Solar Panel is unplugged, the motion sensor becomes active and will turn on the LED panel, which is quite bright. Obviously, this is NOT HOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO WORK. IT IS A MAJOR DEFECT. DEFECTIVE UNITS SHOULD BE RECALLED, too. And, the company would have to know about this defect, as there are two posts already describing this same defect. I would like the company to contact me immediately about sending a replacement unit. I will pursue a chargeback with my credit card company if I am not contact in the next 3 business days. UPDATE 11-07-2020: Contacted Westinghouse for warranty replacement. Emailed details of the defect in my unit. They did not comment or question the problem, so they know about it alrrady. They are working to get me a replacement, from China of course, but are having stock issues. Mine came from old stock with a mfg date of "Sept 2018". BEWARE any unit with that mfg date and be sure to charge it and fully test it on the ground in 30 day return window, before installing it. UPDATE 11-29-20: Finally, a replacement unit magically arrived via UPS. After many email back and forth to their Customer Service. Will charge and test, and hopefully they sent me a working unit this time. If so, I will adjust the rating. SAFETY INFORMATION WARNING: Read all safety precautions and installation instructions carefully before installing or servicing this xture. Failure to comply with these instructions could result in a potentially fatal electric shock and/or property damage. •Do not expose the light to re or intense heat. •Do not immerse in water. •Your motion light and solar panel are both weather-resistant. •Never look directly into the solar motion light when illuminated. CAUTIONS: BATTERY INSTRUCTIONS USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES ONLY. •Always purchase the correct size and grade of battery most suitable for the intended use. •Remove batteries from equipment which is not to be used for an extended period of time. •Dispose of the battery in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. (Do not burn or discard the battery in a municipal water system or other body of water.) CARE AND MAINTENANCE CARE & MAINTENANCE •From time to time, ensure the plug between the solar panel and light is securely connected. •The solar panel should be cleaned with a damp cotton cloth on a regular basis. This will ensure optimal performance and battery charging. •Never let any abrasive material come into contact with the solar panel. INSTALLATION INSTALLING THE SOLAR PANEL 1 Ensure your Solar Panel is placed so that its exposure to the sun is optimized. Be aware of objects such as trees or property overhangs that may impede the panel's ability to generate a charge. To adjust the solar panel loosen the wing nut and position the panel .When desired position is achieved ,tighten wing nut until secure. The Solar Panel is equipped with a 9.84 ft. connecting wire, so the Light Fixture and Solar Panel can be installed up to 9.84 ft. apart. 2 Mark the hole locations of the Base, then set the Solar Panel aside. Check that the marked areas are clear of obstacles such as cables and electrical lines. Drill holes for the enclosed Screws and Wall Anchors. Insert the Wall Anchors then secure the Solar Panel in place with the Screws. MOUNTING THE LIGHT FIXTURE ON THE MOUNTING BRACKET 5 Place the Light Fixture on the Mounting Bracket and secure the Light Fixture in place with the Star Knobs. Mark the hole locations of the Mounting Bracket, then set the Mounting Bracket aside. Check that the marked areas are clear of obstacles such as cables and electrical lines. Drill holes for the enclosed Screws and Wall Anchors. Insert the Wall Anchors then secure the Mounting Bracket in place with the Screws. Carefully route the Power Cord of the Solar Panel to the Light Fixture and plug into the socket located on the Light. Only use solar panels for power charging. It is not allowed to access other external charging equipment. C 01/18/2017 1/2 E What are linkable solar lights? The solar lights are linkable meaning that when one light illuminates the other one will also. The lights include a mounting bracket and screws and a mounting bracket that allows for easy replacement of the rechargeable battery. The battery does require solar charging before the light will work.
