Birth Certificate, Marriage or Divorce Records:

Birth Certificate must:

  • Be issued by the city, county, or state of birth
  • List the applicant's full name, date of birth and place of birth
  • List the parent(s)' full name
  • Have the signature of the city, county, or state registrar
  • Have the date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth)
  • Have the seal of issuing authority

Marriage Certificate:
Local County Clerk's Office where the license was obtained.

Divorce Records:
District Clerk's Office where the divorce decree was filed.

Is Texas DPS still by appointment only?

The Texas Department of Public Safety issues driver licenses that are valid for up to eight years to Texas residents. Driver license offices are located throughout the state and offer services by appointment only.

Is Texas DPS open for walk ins?

All driver license and identification card services including drive tests are by appointment only*. To make an appointment please visit our Driver License Services - Appointments webpage.

Do I need to make an appointment to get a Texas ID?

All driver license office services require an appointment. Visit www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/ apppointments. htm to review important information and to schedule your appointment.

Can I go to Texas DMV without appointment?

Customers without appointments are eligible for service at all 16 department offices. Customers with appointments will receive priority, so appointments are encouraged. All other customers will receive service on a first come, first serve basis depending on their service request.
