Security Guard Certification Class D Licenses (Unarmed)  $120.00

To become an unarmed security guard in the state of Florida, you will first need to obtain your Class “D” Security Guard License.

Licensing is overseen by the The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing. Before you can apply, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a citizen or legal resident alien of the U.S. or have been granted authority to work in the U.S. by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
  • Complete the required security guard training.

To become an armed security guard in the state of Florida, you will first need to obtain your Class “G” Security Guard License.

The Florida class G security license requires 28 Hours of classroom training by a licensed firearms instructor (K) at a licensed firearms school.  The 28 hour Statewide Firearms license class includes all weapons license requirements mandated by the State of Florida Division of Licensing.

You must be 21 to get a concealed carry permit.

  1. Have a passport-style, color photograph made.
  2. Get verification of training that satisfies the training requirement. NRA, DD-14, state training course, etc. . Persons serving in the United States Armed Forces may submit a copy of their Military ID Card to satisfy the training requirement.
  3. Get certified copies of court documents relating to any criminal charges against you.
  4. Take the fingerprint card to a local law enforcement agency and ask to be fingerprinted. In addition to providing fingerprinting services for the traditional “hard-card” format, electronic fingerprint devices are available at almost all 67 county sheriff’s offices in the state.   5. Complete the application. Either print clearly with ink or type the information.
  6. In the presence of a notary, sign application.**

To become an Armed Security Guard in the State of Florida

Excel Security School, Inc provides excellent and comprehensive security guard training programs. We offer security license programs that will enhance individual skills and prepare students for security jobs in the private security industry. The State of Florida requires that under Statutes 493 several security courses must be taken to become a licensed security officer. We have several offices throughout Florida that offer security and tactical training courses.

Division of Licensing Requirements:

    • The applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
    • The applicant is required 28 hours of training in a state certified facility.
    • The applicant is required to take firearms training.
    • The applicant must have a health certificate clearance from a doctor. (Physical Examination)
    • The applicant is required target training and handgun marksmanship.
    • The applicant is required ammunition training and firearms care.
    • The applicant must submit fingerprinting & passport size photo.
    • The applicant must undergo an FBI fingerprint background check.
    • The applicant must have no record of any substance abuse

All Student Must Have or Uptain a Class “D” License First to Apply for a Class “G” License

The Florida Statewide Firearms “G” Course will teach students firearms safety, the principles of marksmanship, firearms mechanics and liability. Skill development shall include marksmanship fundamentals, loading and unloading, the 4-step draw and clearing malfunctions.

Completion of Course

After courses are completed, a Certificate of Proficiency will be disbursed for successfully completing this course. Applications must be submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing.  Applications will be processed within 60-90 days of submission, afterwards initial license (hard copy) will be issued and mailed to applicant. Once issued Class “G” License will be valid for 2 years. When the student receives the Class “G” Security License he or she will then be able to work as a security officer or as a private investigator in an armed capacity. An annual 4 hr re-certification is required yearly to keep Class “G” License active.

How much is a class G security license in Florida?

Class G Security License in Florida G license security officers are must re-qualify for annually for 4 hours of firearms training for the Florida G License Renewal. The G license Florida cost is $205 for the class only.

How do I get a Florida D&G security license?

Students must submit their security application along with a security D Course certificate, passport photo, and a livescan background check and a security d license application fee of $97.75 to the State of Florida. The security D license is valid for two (2) years and must be renewed before the expiration date.

Can you conceal carry with Ag license in Florida?

(4) A Class “C” or Class “CC” licensee who is 21 years of age or older and has also been issued a Class “G” license may carry, in the performance of her or his duties, a concealed firearm.

How long does it take to get your G license in Florida?
