Maybe this is already general knowledge, but we got our first snow of the season today so I thought I’d share. My RAV4 had a button to lock in 4WD (again, simulated) in loose/rough conditions and it saved me quite a few times in rough winter conditions so when I got my 2018 Touring I did some research and found a page from Mazda that essentially says that you can do the same thing by simply turning off the traction control system. Pretty cool! https://insidemazda.mazdausa.com/the-mazda-way/technology/whats-the-diff-mazda-cx-5-unlocks-secret-off-road-mode/ Edit: Seems like for 2020 Mazda has actually renamed the “TCS Off” button to be the “Off-Road Traction Assist” button. But it sounds like it still does the same thing! Free upgrade! ;) From the 2020 CX-5 press release:

The CX-5 isn't perfect—although, that depends on who you ask—as it's not as spacious as rivals such as the Honda CR-V or the Toyota RAV4.
How do you turn on allThere's actually no button you need to press to turn on all-wheel drive in an equipped Mazda CX-5. It will respond to driving conditions as needed.
Is AWD always engaged Mazda CXThe truth of the matter is that if you have an all-wheel-drive equipped Mazda CX-5, then your AWD system is always engaged. It's called always-on all-wheel drive.
