The water filter status needs to be reset every time
the water filter is replaced, it does not automatically reset (on most models). Resetting the water filter status light is going to vary by model and refrigerator type and it is recommended that you consult your Owner's Manual for the specific instructions for your model. When should you replace your water filter?It is recommended that the water filter be replaced every 6 months, when the indicator light comes on, or as needed. A clogged or incorrectly installed water filter will reduce the water flow to the ice maker and dispenser, which could result in small ice cubes, low ice production and/or longer dispensing times. If the filter is clogged and you are not able to immediately replace it, leave the filter out so the water system is in bypass mode. With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing or low ice production. However, in order to have filtered water, you will need to install a new filter. NOTE: One or two drops of water immediately after dispensing is normal. It may be necessary to hold the container under the dispenser for 2 to 3 seconds after releasing the dispenser button. Refrigerator with an Indicator LightThe water filter should be changed when the filter status light/indicator (located on the temperature control panel) alerts that a filter change is needed. Step 2: Be sure the arrow points upwards before inserting it into the filter compartment. Close the door. Step 3: Run water through it so that the new filter will be clean. Step 1: Open the door of the compartment by pulling on the visible lever. Step 2: Turn the old filter to the left and pull it out. Throw it out. Step 3: Put the new filter in the compartment, align it properly and push it in, turning it to the right as you do so. Be sure it locks in. Step 4: Close the door of the compartment and run water through it to clean it out. Model 3: EDR1RXD1This model will go in the filter that is on the upper right hand side of the fridge Step 1: Open the compartment door. Step 2: Pull out the old filter and throw it away. Step 3: Insert the new filter after removing the O-rings’ protective coverings. Be sure the arrow on the filter points up. If it doesn’t slide in freely, turn it until the grooves align. Step 4: When you get it right, the compartment door will close on its own. But push it manually so it snaps shut. Step 5: Run water through it until the new filter is thoroughly clean. Here is a video to explain the process… Model 4: EDR3RXD1For this model, the filter compartment will be on the left side of the base grille of the fridge. Step 1: Press the button on the door to eject the filter. Remove the black cap from it and throw away the old filter. Step 2: Replace the blue cap on the new filter with the black one from the old filter. Make sure the O-rings remain intact after removing the blue cap. Step 3: Put the new filter in, making sure the arrow points up. You will know it is fully in when the eject button pops out. Step 4: Run water until the filter is clean. Model 5: EDR5RXD1The cartridge cap of the filter will be on the left side of the base grille of the refrigerator Step 1: Turn the cap in a counterclockwise fashion until the handle becomes vertical. Pull the filter out then. Step 2: Remove the cap of the filter by moving it from the top to the bottom of the filter. Slide it off, keep it and throw out the old filter. Step 3: Take the new filter and slide in the old cap after removing the new cap and O-rings’ protective coverings. Step 4: Keep the cap handle vertical and push the filter into its slot. Turn it until it is horizontal again. Step 5: Run water to clean out the filter properly.
