Does taco bell still sell the mexican pizza

Despite the fact that some fans are convinced Taco Bell's newly resurrected Mexican Pizza isn't quite the same as before, the beloved menu item is already selling out at locations across the country. And while that might warrant some concern, don't be alarmed. T-Bell said the Mexican Pizza is back permanently, so it's not about to take it away from us again.

Turns out the latest Mexican Pizza disappearances are due to supply issues. Despite preparing for the menu item's grand return weeks in advance, Taco Bell is struggling to keep up with demand. That kind of makes sense, considering one customer recently ordered 180 Mexican Pizzas, and a location in California sold more than 1,000 of them in a single day, according to the chain.

"Our restaurant teams trained for weeks for what we knew would be a big return," Taco Bell said in a letter to customers. "We just didn't realize how big ... Demand was more than seven times than it was the last time it was on our menu."

While Taco Bell locations across the US may be sold out—or close to it—the chain said it's working diligently with restaurants and suppliers to get more back by this fall. According to the company, Mexican Pizza will be returning "to its permanent residency on the Taco Bell menu" soon. It even created a site where you can track the latest Mexican Pizza developments.

"Mexican Pizza fans from around the country came together. To celebrate. To reminisce. And to eat!" the chain added. "You just happened to eat them all. We knew you loved the Mexican Pizza. We just didn’t know how many of you loved the Mexican Pizza. Now, we need a lot more Mexican Pizzas, and that’s exactly what we’ll get."

Mexican Pizza will be returning as a permanent menu item at Taco Bell on September 15, according to the fast-food chain.

The chain, owned by Yum Brands, had pulled the item in 2020 to simplify its menu before bringing it back this May. But Taco Bell said ingredient shortages could not keep up with demand, which was boosted in part by TikTok marketing efforts from rapper Doja Cat.

After its May return, Taco Bell said the demand was seven times higher than when the item was previously available, outpacing its supply capabilities. It said one restaurant in California sold more than 1,000 of the pizzas made with beef and refried beans in one day.

The supply issues have been addressed, according to a statement from the company. "Taco Bell worked diligently to resolve depleted ingredients and supply chain challenges," it said.

Shortages of other fast-food menu items in the past have also helped drum up buzz, including Popeyes first nationwide chicken sandwich in 2019.

Taco Bell customers awaiting the return of the pizza might also be anticipating the release of "Mexican Pizza: The Musical," starring Doja Cat and Dolly Parton, which was delayed along with the dish. Taco Bell told those diehard fans to "stay tuned."

The chain's CEO also revealed more discontinued items could return to Taco Bell.

Sometimes celebrity isn't all it's cracked up to be. Just ask Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza. Back in September 2020, the iconic item seemed washed up, with the chain announcing plans to pull their spin on a pizza off the menu by November. But a groundswell of support emerged, from a grassroots petition campaign to big-name backings from the likes of Doja Cat and Dolly Parton. And so, in April of this year, Taco Bell announced the Mexican Pizza would be returning in May with plans to give the item its own musical.

But how quickly things can change: The initial return of the Mexican Pizza was so popular that the item began selling out across the country, the musical was postponed, and Mexican Pizzas were once again pulled from the Taco Bell menu, like so many Nacho Fries, with a promise to return later this year.

Okay, well, it's later this year, so what exactly is going on with the Mexican Pizza? Financial outlet Fortune says they've gotten the scoop after talking to none other than Taco Bell CEO Mark King. "It's going to be relaunched mid-September and it's going to be a permanent item," King was quoted as saying. "I had more feedback — hate mail! — over the removal of Mexican pizza [than any other time]."

An email from Taco Bell confirmed the official return date for the Mexican Pizza would be September 15.

King also revealed some other interesting tidbits. He reportedly said sales of the Mexican Pizza upon its return were seven-times higher than before its removal which is why what was anticipated as a six-month run became a two-month sellout. "What we learned is that one of the keys to our magic is that people really love individual items," the CEO stated.

And that led to a potentially even more intriguing statement. "So now for us it's, 'What other magical items have we removed that we can relaunch in a big way to capture people's interest or imagination?'" King continued. He then gave an example: "My generation loved the Bell Beefer."

Still, don't expect Taco Bell's take on a hamburger to come back anytime soon. King said that when he suggested that could be the chain's next big returning item, he was "booed out of the room."

Hey, this revival approach seems like it has Choco Taco written all over it.

Is the Mexican Pizza back at Taco Bell yet?

Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza is back on the menu — for good this time. "The beans have been spilled," Taco Bell tweeted.

Why did Taco Bell discontinue the Mexican Pizza again?

Weeks after bringing back the beloved item, Taco Bell said it's temporarily removing Mexican Pizza from its menu until the fall because of high demand. Taco Bell cited one restaurant in California which sold more than 1,000 Mexican Pizzas in one day, and an order from a customer which included 180 Mexican Pizzas.
