I love shopping at Kohl’s! You can find anything that you need all in one store.

Before you head out shopping, it is a good idea to understand exactly what Kohl’s Return Policy is, so that you aren’t stuck with something that doesn’t work out. 

The Kohl’s return policy allows you 180-days to return an item with a receipt or receipt look-up for a full refund in the original form of payment. 

If you don’t have your receipt or the purchase cannot be verified you will receive a refund based on the lowest sales price of the item within the last 13-weeks. 

There are some exceptions such as premium electronics and watches that must be returned with a receipt or account look-up and the original packaging within 30-days of purchase. 

While this is the general policy for returning items at Kohls, there are many specifics and exceptions. 

I have done all the research for and will answer all the common questions that you might have regarding the Kohl’s Return Policy. 

How long do I have to return to Kohls? 

You have 180-days from the original purchase date to return most items that you purchased on Kohls.com or in-store. 

While the majority of items from Kohls will fall under the 180 day rule, premium electronics and watches must be returned within 30 days of purchase. 

What are premium electronics?

While this is not the complete list of Kohls Premium Electronics, it seems to include all watches, speakers, electronic games and toys, headphones and phone accessories, things that light up, cameras and gear, and many things that have batteries and must be plugged into something to work. 

Anytime that you are purchasing something electronic from Kohl’s you should check to see if it might be subject to the Kohl’s premium electronic 30-day return policy rule. 

What is the Kohl’s return policy without a receipt? 

If you no longer have your receipt, you can still return your Kohl’s purchase within the 180-day return window. Unless your item is considered a premium electronic, which is required to have a receipt or valid account look up to verify the purchase, and must be returned within 30-day for a refund. 

What is the Kohl’s return policy with a receipt? 

If you have your receipt or with an account look up, you are able to return most Kohl’s purchases within 180-days, with the exception of premium electronics that must be returned within 30-day of purchase. 

Can I exchange my purchase? 

Yes, you can exchange your Kohls.com or In-store purchase as long as it falls within the 180-day return policy (most items) even if you don’t have your receipt. 

If you are exchanging a premium electronic you must have a receipt or account look up and it must be done within 30-days of purchase with the original packaging. 

Can Kohls look up my receipt? 

Most of the time, Kohl’s can look-up your receipt in their computer system using your credit card or Kohl’s account to verify your purchase. If they are able to look up your receipt, then you won’t need to have the physical receipt for your return. 

If they are not able to find your receipt, your item can still be refunded as a non-receipted return. You will receive a refund based on the lowest price the item has sold for within the last 13 weeks. 

What do I need to bring to process the return? 

You should bring your credit card or debit card used to make the purchase, the receipt (if you still have it), and a valid ID. 

Can you return clothes to kohls without tags?

If you don’t have the tags or original packaging, you can still return most items to Kohls within the 180-day return policy time frame. With the exception of premium electronics which must have the original packaging and tags for a refund. 

What if I have already washed the item? 

If you purchase clothes or an item that has already been washed, you can still return it to Kohl’s in 180-days for a full refund. 

This is one of my favorite things about the Kohl’s refund policy. Sometimes after you wash clothing it doesn’t fit the same, and it’s nice to know that you can still have the option for a refund.

Can you return Kohl’s clearance items?

Yes, you can return any item that you purchased on clearance at Kohl’s within 180-days. With your receipt or receipt look-up you will receive a refund of the full purchase amount in the original form of payment. If you don’t have your receipt your refund will be the lowest sales price of the item within the last 13 weeks.

What is the Kohl’s gift return policy? 

You can return most gifts to Kohl’s within 180-days for a full refund. If you have the gift receipt, then you will receive the full price of the item refunded to you via in-store credit. 

Without a gift receipt, you will receive a store credit refund for the lowest sales price of the item within the last 13 weeks. 

If you have a gifted item that you would like to exchange, then you are able to just exchange the item for the one that you would like, as long as it is the same price. 

What is the Jewelry return policy at Kohl’s?

As long as the Jewelry has no sign of wear, you can exchange or return fine jewelry to Kohl’s within 180-days. 

If you have your receipt or they can look-up your purchase you will receive a full refund, without your receipt you will be refunded for the lowest price within the last 13 weeks. 

Can you return your item to a different Kohl’s store? 

Yes, any item purchased online or from a specific Kohl’s location can be returned to any store for a refund. 

What happens to Kohl’s cash when you return items? 

Kohl’s Cash is reduced when a return is made. If Kohl’s Cash is reduced due to the return but you have already redeemed the coupon, this will impact your total refund amount. 

The unearned Kohl’s Cash (that you already used) will be subtracted from your refund.

What happens when you return something bought with Kohl’s Cash?

If you return an item purchased with Kohl’s Cash, then that Kohl’s Cash will be returned to you. The value will be returned to your original Kohl’s Cash coupon, if it is no longer valid, you will receive a new Kohl’s Cash coupon.

How to return Kohl’s online order? 

Any items purchased online can be returned within 180-days for a full refund by mail, or to any Kohl’s store location. 

To return to a Kohl’s store in person, you will need to bring your item and the order invoice. If you no longer have the order invoice, you can print it from your Kohls.com account.

If you cannot find your invoice, they may be able to look up the purchase in-store and process your refund. 

If you are returning a Kohls.com purchase by mail, you will have to pay the cost to ship the item back for return. 

When shipping your item back to Kohl’s for a return, include the item (items shipped back must be new with tags), and your order invoice. 

Once your returned item is received your refund will be processed in about 7-10 business days. 

Please note that items purchased on Kohls.com can be returned and refunded, but not exchanged. If you wish to exchange a product you must visit a Kohl’s store.

Does Kohl’s have a holiday return policy? 

The return policy for most Kohl’s purchases is the same 180-day return window even during the holidays. Premium electronics purchased between November 1st – December 31st can be returned with the original packaging and a receipt through January 31st for a refund. 

Can you return items after 180 days? 

No, after 180-days Kohl’s purchases are no longer eligible for a return. The previous Kohl’s return policy didn’t have a time limit. You could return your purchases anytime that you were not satisfied. 

Recently, Kohl’s has changed the policy for items to only be accepted for returns within 180-days of purchase. 

How long does a Kohl’s return take? 

For cash back refunds or in-store credit, you will receive your cash or credit immediately. If the money is being refunded back onto a credit or debit card, it will normally take an average of 7-10 business days depending on your bank. 

Can you return a gift card? 

No, Kohl’s doesn’t offer refunds for gift cards. 

Tips to Make Kohl’s Returns Easier

There are a few more things that you can do to make returning items to Kohls easier. 

Sign up for a Kohl’s account

If you sign up for a Kohl’s account, you will earn Kohl’s Cash with your purchases, and it will also make it easier for you to return items if you lose your receipt. 

Make sure you use your Kohl’s account when you are checking out in-store and online, and if you ever need them to verify a purchase or look-up a receipt for a return it will make it much easier. 

Save Your Receipts and Packaging

While Kohls has a much more relaxed return policy than many other stores, you should always still save your purchase information if you think that you might need to return something. 

Kohls will not deny most returns, except for premium electronics without the receipt and packaging, but it is still a good idea to have it just in case you need it. 

Call Your Local Store

If you are not sure about returning something specific to Kohl’s, just call your local store and ask. Remember that it doesn’t hurt to ask, and you may just be surprised.
