Singing In The Dead Of Night Lyrics
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Into the light of the dark black night
Into the light of the dark black
night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney has given different statements regarding his inspiration for the song and its meaning. Once he said he had been inspired by hearing the call of a blackbird one morning when The Beatles were studying Meditation in India. Another time he recalls writing it as a response to racial tensions escalating in the United States during the spring of 1968.
The guitar accompaniment for the song was inspired by a well-known Johann Sebastian Bach's classical lute piece "Bourrée in E minor".
"Blackbird" is one of the most famous fingerstyle tunes, the song novice guitar players often try to learn. The fingerpicking technique that Paul McCartney used in the song was taught to him by folk singer Donovan.
