2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware: dissapointed, issues with quality of ponies, rip off
Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2019

I'm very disappointed with this purchase due poor quality control of the ponies. I was expecting fuller manes and tails, also there were major issues with the paint/detail work - my Rainbow Dash didn't even have a cutie mark and part of the cutie marks on the other Pegasus were obscured by their wings. Since the set claimed to be 80's inspired I was expecting cutie marks on both sides but these are just one sided, and in the case of Rainbow Dash no cutie marks at all. Also disappointed because the eyes are just painted on like the current MLP's -these look more like a mix of the G4 and G3 ponies, not the original ones, so I don't understand why they advertised it as 80's inspired in the first place (unless they were referring to the lovely packaging) . Since they resembled the G3 ponies I was also expecting a magnet on the hooves but they don't have any. This was a great idea that was poorly executed. They look pretty online but in reality they are cheaply made.

Overall, the packaging is really cute. I did expect the mane 6 to be larger, like the size of the original generation 1 ponies. But they are actually the size of the generation 4 brushables. I also don't think they expect you to take them out of the package haha. I am a collector, but I don't really care about resale value or all that. I live in a small place so I can't have tons of packaging everywhere because there's no room, so I did take them out of the box. Their manes are really choppy, and to be honest, they look really cheap, like the hair that would be on a my little pony knockoff at the dollar store lol. But, the actual figures are cute and pretty.

My daughter and I LOVE these vintage style versions of the new ponies. They are one of our favorite toys. They are so much cuter, better made, and sturdier IMO than many of the newer style. They stand up well and are the perfect size for little hands. Many fans of the old style ponies lament the lack of baby ponies -- THIS is the best/closest solition. HASBRO -- please keep making this box set for years to come! After my kids grow up I want to buy it for their kids!

The hair is soft and silky, but also slippery and doesn't want to lie flat. Needs taming.

Obvious seams.

Hard sturdy plastic with no slight squish.

Seems to be a mishmash of G1 and G3.

The packaging is nice, the ponies are cute, roughly the same size as a G4 or a baby pony. The anatomy is more proportionate

The symbols are nicely done and two have been completely revamped. The horns are a better length, the tail is still too low.

The poses are more dynamic and the expression is quite sweet

Overall a good package deal for kids, or pony collectors. Very cute!

My daughter really loves these, but I was hoping for a generation 1 pony version of the mane six ponies. Can’t complain though, they are as pictured in the photos. Please note that Twilight Sparkle has wings, which I was going to complain about because she is clearly a unicorn and that doesn’t even make pony sense, but it turns out that I’m wrong and she gets wings in series 3. 5 out of 5, very much enjoyed these toys.

Netflix has a show called the Toys that Made Us. One of the episodes is all about My Little Pony. My wife watched that with our daughters and she regaled them with tales of playing with MLPs in her youth and seemed genuinely sad that she no longer had any. Enter this set. I won Christmas Gift of All Time with it. She not only squeed with delight upon unwrapping it, she soon had them out prancing all over the house like she was 8 years old again. I give this set 5 stars all across the board because it made my beautiful wife feel young again.

I had a pony just like this back in 1988.
These ones are like the same replica.
Well made. Beautiful. More realistic and whimsical. Love the fact that these ponnies have hair that my toddler can brush vs the new version that doesn’t.
My kid played with them non stop. And they are in great condition.
Buy them !

My daughters loved the ponies years ago and now I am buying them for my granddaughter. They are just as cute as they were back then

I got this for my collection, and it is definitely worth the money. The ponies come in packaging that is very cute and vibrant on the outside, and getting them out is no hassle. (Which has been a problem with hasbro for YEARS) Coming from a collector this is a very good set! Though the ponies bear more a resemblance to G3 rather than G1, but, it’s still a nice change from that horrifying G4.5 reboot that was made.
