2011 chevrolet traverse tire size p255 65r18 1lt 2lt

I have read a few posts on the availablity of tires in the factory size of p255/65R-18. There isn't much to pick from. Has anybody tried a p265/65r-18 tire? I was looking at Michelin's ltx m/s2 and their spec's vs the factory goodyears. They're 0.4" larger in over all diameter, slightly less tread width, slightly larger section width and 659 revs/mile vs 669 for the goodyears. Would they fit?

OEM tire diameter for the 18" Traverse tire is 31". As long as you stay within 3% of that diameter, either larger or smaller, the computer, spedometer and such should still be okay with it.

Other factors to consider is the width with any clearance problems that may cause, the tire load rating factor and the speed rating.

I'm not sure how much of a clearance issue there may be for wider tires on the traverse. You may have to do some more research on that. There has probably been more discussion about tires on the other Lambda forums since they are older and more of those vehicles would be ready for new tires. So far I don't have enough miles to consider what may fit for replacement.

im in the same boat--- wont be needing tires for a while-- several years--- so Im hoping that by the time I do need them-- theres more of a selection.
But I actually have no complaints about the factory tires (for my driving conditions).

If I get a nail in the sidewall-- then ill be concerned...

I'm hoping that Michelin will have the LTX M/S2 tire in the 18 inch size in two years when I probably will replace the Goodyears .

I've had good results and great tire wear ,longevity and performance from Michelin tires even if they are higher priced .

I too have always been a fan of Michelins. I think that I would consider the off size Michelin tire. My dad did that once on one of his trucks, and it worked out great. It filled in the wheel wheel a little nicer too!

I am in the same boat as others, in that I won't be needing any new tires any time soon. We'll see what comes out over the next couple years.

Actually, a 265 tire is wider than a 255 tire, by 10mm.

You should be fine clearance wise for the width, as my Traverse has the 20" rims, and I believe they are 265 in width.

Assuming tire dimension numbers are exact, the difference between a 255/65R-18 and a 265/65R-18 would be as follows.

Diameter: 255 ÷ 25.4 = 10.04 x 65% = 6.53 x 2 = 13.06 + 18 = 31.06"
265 ÷ 25.4 = 10.43 x 65% = 6.78 x 2 = 13.56 + 18 = 31.56"

Width: 255 ÷ 25.4 = 10.04"
265 ÷ 25.4 = 10.43"

So, the 265 is 1/2" larger diameter (1.5% larger) and roughly 0.4" (actually 0.3937") wider than 255. If it doesn't rub on suspension or steering components, it likely would be an okay choice. I'm thinking it would affect your odometer and speedometer readings a trifle.

The 10mm you are referencing is section width. The web sites I was looking at listed a slightly smaller tread width for the Michelins (and larger section width). The 0.4" difference in OD is also from the sites and differs slightly from the math.

I guess the bottom line is that a 1.5% difference isn't significant with respect to odo and speedo values and although most Traverse owners may not have replaced tires yet I was wondering if anyone from the other Lamda forums had tried them yet? My search for this tire size on those forums wasn't successfull.

I was curious about the same thing, but liked the Goodyear triple tread. It currently comes in 265/60, 265/65 and 275/60. The 275/60 is the same outer diameter as the stock 255/65 but 20mm wider. That’s a little less than a ½” wider on both sides of the rim. Will that likely lead to rubbing issues?

I also hope there will be a wider selection of 255/65 in the future, however the Acadia has been out since ~2006 with the same tire size.

Theres pictures somewhere of someone who put on the snow chains on their Lambda. you know the type with thin cable-- not chain links...

well the picture showed the cable was hitting part of the strut.... very little clearance.

So you are hijacking but I dont mind rather I appreciate it as I got few educated responces. I will be going in that direction when the day arrives, and now is not a bad time with the Michelin $70 rebate in effect this and next month. I will post when I get results and keep you all posted...

Until then, My Michelion Rep said not production plans in the pipeline for the Lambdas, yet.

I found Toyo makes a tire, Versado, in 255/65R18.

Yes, I've noticed that one also. My OK tire dealer tells me they are great tires. I've used Toyo's in the past on other vehicles and they've been fine. Does anyone have any experience with these particular tires?

I also found those some months back... but if youve seen a recent post of my factory tires at 20,000... I wont be needing new tires till 60-80,000....
THe good thing is theres a member on the Acadia forum who HAS them on his Acadia and gives them thumbs up...

About a month ago I put 265 / 65 /R18 on my Traverse. No problems whatsoever. I had to sign a wavier stating I understood it wasn't the recommended size but the put them on and there's plenty of room.

I bought Nexen Roadian HP SUV Tire P265/65R18 from Walmart. Shipped them site to store and the they installed them for free. After they charged me to dispose of the old ones and added tax I was out the door for a little over $700.00 with an oil change. The dealer quoted me almost $1,100.00!! Saved $400.00!

But... did the dealer have Nexen Roadian HP tires? I doubt it, as that is a Walmart/Sams/Costco brant, to my knowledge, and not one carried by the dealer, which would have OEM replacements. Hard to compare Apples to Oranges. Still, you got new tires for $700, which isn't bad for a lambda, from what I've seen.

I have a question, recently I had put new tires on my traverse and I went with the 265/65r18 because there was many more tires available and also they look bigger and have a better look. the tires DO fit fine but I have noticed that the vehicle handles differently mostly on the highway at around 70mph seems to have like a side-to-side wobble in the rear only on a strait away but it didn't start until I put these tires on. I had also replaced shocks and struts and had two alignment's done, all suspension and steering components are fine. Took it to the dealer twice and the service manger took it for a test drive and said it was due to aggressive tread and the bigger tire. I have a hard time believing this because the tire is only 1/2 inch bigger and I have read about other people running them with no problems. also seems to me like the steering wheel is more touchy, I am running Goodyear Wrangler All-terrain adventure.
Any ideas please let me know because I am stumped.

There are more issue with over sizing tires than you think as the vehicle is tuned for the tires it has.
Poor performance can be due to larger tires changing final drive ratio, poor braking performance from heavier and bigger around tires, poor ride and handling quality due to change in unsprung weight and or ride height.

Plus not to mention the stability control system which my be your very issue.

The system is designed to reduce sway the difference in the tire size may be actually causing the stability control to be receiving incorrect readings and is trying to adjust for a non existent sway..
