After loosing the speedometer then getting a CEL I need to replace the speed sensor on my 07 Civic EX Coupe. I have the part on the way (Honda 28810-PWR-013)....

I removed the battery and battery tray, got the sir cleaner box out of the way, but I cannot seem to find where the sensor is. It should be visible now, but I cant seem to find it.

Can anyone help me out?

THANKS

Manual or Auto - in either case the sensor is in the same general area. Have you removed the wiring harness from the air support box bracket and then removed that bracket?
On an automatic the sensor is under that bracket towards the rear, also there is a pressure sensor under it but at a right angle to it.
On the manual you might not have to remove the bracket as the sensor is to the left of that bracket, (in)conveniently placed under several hoses.

Manual. Nothing under air cleaner box .... that was a joy to get out.

Apparently the best way to get it is from under the car. I was told that by someone who replaced one and didnt have to remove the air cleaner box.

Might be possible but the housing bulges out underneath it.

Hope this helps. \/\/\/

Hi all,

I recently went over a bump and all of a sudden lost my speedometer, power steering and reverse gear was unlocked. I figure this is due to the VSS / wires / connector malfunctioning or maybe just even loose. I've trawled these forums looking for how to replace and unfortunately most of the images aren't up anymore and I just can't seem to find where the damn sensor is. I first tried jacking the front of the car up but couldn't see it, then I removed the air box and still can't find it!

It's a UK 1.8 Civic.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

UPDATE: I found it! Right at the back of the transmission. It is accessible by removing the air box.

The sensor had visible damage on it, so I ordered the replacement which for me was 28810-PWR-013 , couldn't find it anywhere online that wasn't from china and I need my car for christmas so I ordered it from my local honda dealership for £83 with next day pickup.

I'm going to post a full guide once I've got it fitted as there is really no solid guide online and it seems to be a fairly common issue.

Hi there. Did you find it? If not, I will send you some photos tomorrow. It's right at the back of the gearbox.

I have the same issue. Where can I find the sensor? I tried with the pictures and there's no way for me to find the damn thing.

What are the symptoms of a failing speed sensor?

5 Common Bad Speed Sensor Symptoms.
Transmission problems. ... .
Erratic speedometer readings. ... .
Inability to engage cruise control. ... .
Lack of torque converter clutch application. ... .
Check Engine Light is triggered. ... .
An internal electrical fault in the speed sensor. ... .
Damage on the sensor itself. ... .
Poor vehicle maintenance..

Why is my Honda Civic speedometer not working?

The most common reasons a Honda Civic speedometer isn't working are the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), a faulty speedometer, or an electrical issue. Search our network of RepairPal Certified shops near you to speak with a technician about your issue.
