Wisconsin state invitational basketball tournament 2022

The Oregon eighth grade boys basketball team won the Wisconsin State Invitational Division 2 Tournament in Merrill on March 26 and 27.

The state tournament is organized by The Great Northwest Basketball League, and brought together 80 of the top community-based eighth-grade boys basketball teams from across the state to play either six or seven games over the two-day weekend. State Champions were crowned in four divisions: Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4/5, based on the enrollment of the high school into which each team feeds.

The Oregon eighth grade team finished first in their field, winning all six of their games, including a win over Whitnall, and defeated Seymour in the final game to win the Division 2 title. The team consists of Nolan Erfurth, Landon Gladden, Brayden Hermsdorf, Mason Hoffer, Brady Hook, Vaughn Karvala, Trevor Mehring, Ethan Pagels and Will Schmitt. The boys were coached by Kevin Schmidt, Chris Erfurth and Chad Gladden.

Two of the Oregon players were selected for the All-Tournament team for Division 2: Hermsdorf and Karvala.

WSICT - what is it?

The Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament, or WSICT, is an annual event for 5th through 8th grade teams, played between late February and mid-April.  All teams invited to the WSICT for the first time are contacted in the fall and winter before the next spring's events.  Teams that played competitively in the WSICT the previous year and are in compliance with all tournament rules regarding All Tournament Team ballots, liability waivers/concussion agreements, eligibility requirements, etc., are extended invitations in late October for the WSICT events the next spring.

What does this mean to me?

The Hoyas Basketball Club has the privilege of hosting the majority of the 8th grade tournament this year.   This is our major (typically only) fundraiser of each year.  Parents are REQUIRED to work either in concessions or admissions during the tournament.  Failure to do so can lead to disqualifications from eligibility for summer camp reimbursements, the Hoyas Scholarship Program, or Hoyas itself.

2020 8th Grade WSICT dates are 4/4 and 4/5/20
