As a fan of Winnie the Pooh, 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' was always one of my favourite shows as a child. Not all childhood favourites have held up, but 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' is one of the strongest examples of those that have. While the original three 60s-70s short films ('Honey Tree', 'Blustery Day' and 'Tigger Too') and the 1977 'The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' are just a little better, 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' is one of the Winnie the Pooh franchise's high points. "Nothing But the Tooth" is a great episode, but if there was a top 15-20 of the show's best episodes "Gone with the Wind" is definitely up there in my estimations. The animation is very bright, well drawn and colourful, everything looking lush, detailed and smooth, sometimes with a darker style. "Gone with the Wind" is particularly beautifully animated, with a beautifully moody opening and a very elegantly rendered sunset at the tear-jerking end. The music is playfully jaunty and beautifully orchestrated, enhancing scarier moments with hauntingly urgent and eerie scoring, sadder moments with poignant and particularly lush and emotional scoring and the more playful moments with a jaunty touch. The theme tune is very rousing and one of the catchiest theme songs of any animated show of the late 80s. Writing has a perfect mix of whimsy, drollness, wit, charm and childhood innocence. The childhood innocence and drollness is particularly striking in "Nothing But the Tooth", while "Gone with the Wind" is more emotionally impacting and moody, one of the show's moodiest and most touching. Love Pooh's lovable drollness in "Nothing But the Tooth", while "Gone with the Wind" has some cracking humorous lines contrasting beautifully with the moody and emotional tone, especially "What a blustery morning. It must be winds day again" and Tigger's "Where? Where? I don't see any flying Piglet, probably just one of those unidentified omelets". Both stories are simple but lovingly and charmingly told, with "Nothing But the Tooth" funnier and more whimsical (one can also relate to Pooh, as all of us have been there in losing our teeth), while "Gone with the Wind" is layered and more emotional. The part where Pooh, Gopher, Tigger and Rabbit get flushed down the drain being one of the funniest parts of the entire show. All the characters carry both episodes wonderfully, Tigger is hilarious, Pooh is very lovable and Piglet is affectingly adorable, but one cannot write about these episodes without talking about the scene-stealing pack rats, they are hilarious but also very cute at the same time. The vocal cast are uniformly excellent. In conclusion, one great episode and one top-tier episode. 10/10 Bethany Cox "Gone with the Wind" is the second segment of the eleventh episode of the first season of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh made by Walt Disney Television Animation. It originally aired on March 27, 1988. SynopsisAfter being buffeted by the wind, Piglet develops a fear of it. He even refuses to go outside. The friends must lift it, and get Piglet outside again. PlotThe very strong wind has a tendency to blow about very small animals. Piglet gets blown about the Hundred Acre Wood. He blows into Pooh's house on this incredibly blustery morning. He's blown out of Pooh's house and slams into Rabbit's house, creating a terrible ruckus, and not to mention mess. Tigger goes to Kanga and Roo's house, causing the flapjacks to fly, Tigger catching one in mid air in his mouth. Yum! Piglet decides the safest place is under his chair, and he hides there like last time. Nothing the gang tries to do can seem to get him out. Pooh decides to give Piglet a telegram. The little pink guy has tied bricks to his feet, but still gets blown about. They enlist the help of Gopher, who tunnels under Piglet's house, but make a wrong turn and end up directly under a lake... They plan to give a staying inside party... But Piglet doesn't feel like coming out. He's just being afraid. Piglet's wish is that he never has to come out of his chair again. Roo asks if he hides under a chair, can he eat cake all the time. Kanga replies no, he'll have to have ice cream too! Eeyore is missing Piglet too, as are the others. Pooh gives Piglet a pinwheel, as the others leave. They eat outside and swing, while Piglet is watching them from his window, wishing he could join them, watching the colorful sunset. Piglet comes to see Pooh in the wind, that night. The wind is worse than before. Pooh is blown away and almost off a cliff. His shirt and scarf wraps around the tree, but it breaks. Piglet confronts his fears and goes out into the ferocious wind, using his pinwheel and saves Pooh, just before the pin wheel breaks apart and they land on the ground and Piglet isn't afraid anymore.
