Behind the Song:
'Remembering God is a big theme in the Bible, especially the Old Testament. David often uses it in the Psalms. He reminds himself exactly who it is we serve. I started writing this song about three weeks into my illness. Feeling pretty terrible and on edge I sat down with Psalm 103 and my guitar and started singing 'I will not forget all your benefits even when the storm surrounds my soul'. As I remembered the things God has done for me and the people I love my soul began to rise. Our God is a comforter, a healer. He is strength to the weary and a father to the orphans. He saves us and satisfies us with good things. He is faithful even when we are faithless. It makes me feel better just reading it now. Interestingly, David goes on in this psalm to talk about how even though our lives are short and like wildflowers we bloom and die quickly, God's mercy is everlasting to those who fear Him. If there's any theme to this album it's this. Our God is an everlasting God. No matter how fatigued or broken we are He is still capable of everlasting mercy. But more than that, this everlasting God is the God who saves us.
