What atm can i use apple pay

I'm the OP for the other post. I tried three different banks last night and AP doesn't work to withdraw cash unless you use the bank's own card from your AP wallet. It didn't help that Wells Fargo ATMs don't have working contactless readers.

I think I mentioned in the other post that stores around me are restricting cash back amounts on purchases, so I can't use that method anymore. Sometimes I need to pay hundreds in currency to contractors to avoid fees or tax for using debit, credit, Venmo, etc.

More and more banks have started including NFC technology into their ATMs. So, to answer your question, yes, you can now use the digital wallet at ATMs.

Like most people, I don't like carrying a lot of money with me. Apple Pay has been my saving grace. I've been using it to withdraw cash since the first bank in my area adopted NFC. I've discussed how you too can use it to withdraw money below.

How Do I Withdraw Money From Apple Pay?

Apple strives to make things as easy for users as possible. That's why Apple Pay withdrawals are easy:

  • Open the Wallet app on your device
  • Choose the debit card you want to use
  • Place your phone over the contact less symbol on the ATM
  • Confirm wanting to use the card with your Touch ID
  • Enter your ATM PIN into the machine

Which Banks Let You Use Apple Pay To Withdraw?

Unfortunately, the number of banks that let you withdraw with Apple Pay are few and far between.

You'll know if you can use the digital wallet at an ATM if you see the NFC symbol on it - it looks like a sideways WiFi symbol.

The following banks have got you covered:

  • Bank of America
  • Chase Bank
  • CitiBank
  • Wells Fargo

If it's any consolation, there are a lot of banks that let you withdraw through their apps, instead of paying with your debit card. This makes up for not being able to use the digital wallet.

Some of them include:

  • City National Bank
  • Fifth Third Bank
  • First Farmers Bank & Trust
  • HomeStreet Bank
  • PlainsCapital Bank
  • PNC
  • Wintrust

Can I Use My Apple Card At An ATM?

Sadly, no. Apple cards have no cash advance or withdrawal features. Think of the cards as exclusively virtual credit cards.

Are There Any Drawbacks To Using Cardless Cash ATMs?

Cardless cash ATMs are useful. But like anything, there are a couple of drawbacks to using them:

  • Probably the most obvious is that you can only use a select few ATMs. When I mean select few, I mean very few. If you live in a rural area, there possibly are no cardless ATMs near you. Don't get me started on the number of them that will let you use Apple pay in the first place
  • Thieves would be more enticed to steal your iPhone or Apple watch if they notice you using the Apple Pay system to withdraw cash

FAQ

I've answered some popular questions below.

Why Was My Apple Pay Declined?

Being declined means that you have insufficient funds in your account. At the same time, though, the card you're using may have temporarily been locked or even blocked. Get in touch with your bank.

Why Isn't My Debit Card Working On Apple Pay?

Check Apple's System Status page. Is Apple Pay down? This problem almost always pops up when the digital wallet is down. There's nothing you can do other than call Apple and ask them when the issue will be solved.

Final Thoughts

Using Apple Pay to withdraw money without carrying consumer debit cards is useful, however, not many banks let you withdraw from their ATMs through the digital wallet. If this is disappointing, know that this is true for Samsung Pay and Android Pay as well.

The ability to withdraw through the digital wallet is most popular in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, but other countries have been making changes too.

Whether you're using Wells Fargo, Citibank, or Chase ATMs, you'll see Near Field Communication symbols plastered on the machines if you're able to use them.

Can I use Apple Pay to withdraw money from ATM?

You can use Apple Pay at most cardless ATMs. That includes large institutions like Chase, Wells Fargo, and the Bank of America. All you will need to look for is the contactless symbol to signal that the ATM is NFC-enabled.
