Dry ice production machines

As a Belgian manufacturer, CRYONOMIC® has four types of dry ice production machines in its product range. Each dry ice production machine has its own advantages and is used in specific industries for different purposes. The CIP-5 series are the 5th generation of dry ice production machines. With new technology and revised design, the CIP-5 dry ice production machines are the successors of the CIP-4 series known by many customers.

What type of dry ice production machines do we have?

The smallest dry ice production machine that CRYONOMIC® has available, is the CIP-5XS and produces 35 kg (80 lbs) dry ice pellets per hour. The CIP-5XS dry ice production machine is the most suitable unit if small capacities are needed. Thanks to its lightweight, this dry ice production machine has been developed to be placed on a table.

The next in row is the CIP-5S dry ice production machine that can produce up to 100 kg/h (175 lbs/h) and is used for cooled transport, catering, medical centers, winemakers, etc. This is not only a dry ice production machine which can produce dry ice pellets for cooling, for manual dry ice cleaning or other application. The CIP-5S can also produce dry ice for companies that have the need and capacity to blast automatically. In this case the dry ice production machine produces pellets which fall down directly into the dry ice blaster and completes the automatic process.

One of the larger dry ice production machines is the CIP-5M pelletiser. With its capacity to produce up to 180 kg dry ice per hour (350 lbs/h), it is the recommended dry ice production machine for companies who have different dry ice blasting machines and have a high need for pellets for dry ice blasting or for companies who are active in cooled transport.

The main dry ice production machine is the CIP-5L pelletiser which produces 320 kg/h (700 lbs/h) and is suitable for companies who are every day in need of large dry ice quantities.

Dry ice production requirements

To set-up a new dry ice production factory or dry ice production machine, following items are required:

  • First of all, to be able to produce dry ice, you need a storage tank with liquid CO2 that is connected to the dry ice production machine. You can find more detailed information about the dry ice production process on our website.
  • Second item that is required is of course one of our dry ice production machines out of the CIP-5 series.
  • And finally, to keep the dry ice pellets fresh, we offer our customers the possibility to purchase dry ice containers (minimum 2 dry ice containers, because when one is full, the other one can be used for filling)

Extruders for the dry ice production machines

All CRYONOMIC® dry ice production machines can be delivered with different extrusion dies. 3 mm dry ice pellets are used for dry ice cleaning. 10 mm and 16 mm pellets are used for cooling or other applications.

The biggest advantages of the CRYONOMIC® dry ice production machines are:

  • Possibility to pause the dry ice production by signal from balance when preset weight is reached
  • A touchscreen makes it possible to follow all production parameters
  • The very fast change of extruders

Dry ice containers for dry ice deliveries

To guarantee a good dry ice delivery to your customer, with fresh and high-quality dry ice pellets, you are well-invited to use the isolated CRYONOMIC® dry ice containers:

  • CIC85 : 85 liter (~ 70 kg dry ice)
  • CIC151 : 151 liter, available on wheels (~ 125 kg dry ice)
  • CIC370 : 370 liter, available on wheels or pallet (stackable) (~ 300 kg dry ice)
  • CIC550 : 550 liter, available on pallet (~440 kg dry ice)

Features CRYONOMIC® dry ice containers:

  • Very well-isolated
  • Light weight
  • Thermoplastic and stainless steel
  • Hygienic silicone seals
  • Rust proof
  • Are made not too high to allow every user to empty the dry ice from the bottom without problems.

The dry ice containers are made to be placed under the dry ice production machines during the dry ice production.

CRYONOMIC® can set up your dry ice production on site

We have trained people that can assist you in setting up your own dry ice production factory or your dry ice production machine. Training can be done at place, at your location, but you are also warmly welcome to visit our factory in Ghent and combine this with a complete training of the dry ice production machine.

Dry ice production used for different applications

Having your own dry ice production factory or dry ice production machine could be interesting because you can serve customers that are looking after dry ice pellets for following applications:

  • dry ice blasting
  • food/catering industry
  • medical/labs
  • transport
  • process cooling
  • showeffects
  • wine production
  • pest control
  • and many others

Dry ice production machine for automatically filling dry ice blasting machine

As explained more in the beginning of this page, the CIP-5 production machines can produce dry ice for companies that have the need and capacity to blast automatically. In this case the dry ice production machine produces pellets which fall down directly into the hopper of the dry ice blaster and completes the automatic process.

Dry ice blasters no longer need to be filled manually because our dry ice production machine CIP-5S is especially equipped for robotised cleaning. The dry ice blasting machine is placed below the dry ice pellet production mouth and fills the blaster as programmed, depending on how many kg dry ice is required.

How much does a dry ice blaster cost?

Dry ice blasters range in price from $15k to $45k USD.

What is a dry ice pelletizer?

Device for producing dry ice pellets which are mainly used for dry ice blasting but also for cooling. Dry ice is made from liquid carbon dioxide. In a dry ice pelletizer (examples in Fig. 1 and technical data for dry ice production here), liquid CO2 is expanded under controlled conditions.

How do dry ice blasters work?

Dry ice blasting is a simple, nonabrasive cleaning process that uses CO2 pellets as impact medium for removing surface contaminants without the use of chemicals, abrasive materials, high temperatures, or steam. The solid pellets sublime directly after impact on the surface, leaving no solid residue after blasting.
