Application InformationPositions AvailableThe Department of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma offers 20 categorical, 6 preliminary, and 3 medicine-pediatrics positions each year. To fill our preliminary positions, we work closely with dermatology, radiology, radiation oncology, and other residency programs. All appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and applicants must register through the website. Interviews are by invitation only and based on academic performance, United States Medical Licensing Examination and/or COMLEX-USA scores, and letters of recommendation. Applicants should schedule USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK (or equivalent COMLEX exams) and release their scores to ensure that the program can view them by mid-February to be considered for placement on the rank order list. Program EligibilityCurrent senior or graduate of an LCME-approved medical school (or osteopathic equivalent) or an international graduate with a valid ECFMG certificate and valid visa or permanent resident status are eligible to apply. International medical graduates are sponsored on J-1 visas. Applicants must be within five years of completion of medical school to be considered for a position. Insurance BenefitsThe University of Oklahoma offers a flexible benefits plan authorized by Section 125 (Cafeteria Plan) of the Internal Revenue Code. Each month, eligible employees receive an allowance of benefits credits. These credits represent the portion the University pays to provide benefit-eligible employees with the following core insurance benefits:
Long Term Disability Insurance – Provided by the College of Medicine to all residents. The benefits are paid at 60% of monthly salary. Benefits start after you have been totally or partially disabled for 90 consecutive days. In addition to the University-provided core insurance benefits, employees and their dependents have the option to participate in other benefits available at the employee's cost. These include:
A compensation based contribution system is in place for medical insurance which provides benefits for residents and eligible dependents. Medical insurance coverage begins commensurate with the date resident begins term of appointment. Employees may pay for medical, dental, life insurance, AD&D, and vision with pre-tax dollars. Professional Liability InsuranceThe University of Oklahoma College of Medicine provides an occurrence-based policy for supervised medical practice within the scope of the training program. This means that a “tail” will never need to be purchased once the resident leaves the program as coverage will always revert back to the time of the event while the resident was in training. Residents are covered for the amount of the state of Oklahoma’s legal cap on resident liability, $100,000 per claim. Defense costs are also fully paid by the policy.
