For the fans of Nightmare Before Christmas. This is a great childhood game that deserves some recognition. And it would be amazing to relive this game once again on the ps4 system. I would like to make the people who can make this happen see that there are people who care about it, and so that it may be released some day!

It would be greatly appreciated if you vote. And you would have an amazing game in your library!

Released in 1993 under the Touchstone Pictures banner, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas received critical acclaim and continues to enjoy a strong following. This spooky and charming stop-motion film features a delightful cast of characters and a world that could be easily expanded upon if it were given a sequel.

While creator Tim Burton has ruled out a true sequel to the film, the franchise has expanded though other formats. For example, Tokyopop made a comic book sequel, and Kingdom Hearts has incorporated its world into its mainline games. But a different sequel to this beloved movie has been flying under the radar for fifteen years now: Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge.

Released by Capcom in 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, Oogie's Revenge utilized gameplay similar to Devil May Cry and expanded upon Nightmare Before Christmas' world. Players can explore Halloween Town, Christmas Town and the surrounding areas and meet characters from the movie. Collecting the in-game currency of souls allows the player to buy items that will aid them on their quest. The game is full of secret areas abound and evil monsters are everywhere, and getting high scores on chapters unlocks new outfits, some of which come with special powers.

Of course, given the game's age, Oogie's Revenge has some flaws. The graphics are clearly dated by modern standards, there are plenty of camera issues and while monochromatic colorization fits with the movie's style, it also means characters like Jack vanish in still shots. The story is fun, but it can sometimes feel like fanfiction. While players get to see more of the world, they don't learn much more about the characters. Plus, some sound clips are so common that they become grating, and despite being based on a musical and incorporating music-based combat, there's only one original song in the game -- the rest are from the movie.

These are nitpicks, however. If you're playing this game, it's most likely because you loved the film, and the game's charm should make up for its flaw in the eyes of fans. Just the allure of exploring more of Halloween Town with Jack Skellington is enough for most people, and much of the original cast reprised their roles for the game (with Chris Sarandon performing both Jack's speaking and singing voice this time). Oogie being revived to wreak havoc is an old trope with this franchise, but those who felt he went down too fast in the movie can get catharsis in defeating him in this game.

Oogie's Revenge is clearly a love-letter to the movie. It's full of many little details from the movie that are used to extrapolate what the rest of Jack's world looks like. For instance, Oogie's casino lair becomes a huge level for Jack to navigate during a pulse-pounding chapter. The Mayor's house is never seen in the movie, but the version in the game certainly looks like it belongs to him. The area around Finkelstein's house becomes a mad scientist's lab that fits the doctor perfectly, and the pumpkin patch and graveyard are just what you'd expect from Halloween Town.

Christmas Town is charming and bright (albeit suffering from Oogie and his minions visiting), and the Hinterlands are hauntingly beautiful -- especially before Jack sets it right, as it most closely resembles a pen and ink picture before he does.

Jack himself is more than capable of navigating his world, using acrobatic jumps and dodges that fit his character so smoothly that his dance numbers become a natural progression. The soul robber is crucial to maneuvering around the place, while the Santa Jack and Pumpkin King outfits are necessary for solving the puzzles encountered. Everyone is packed with spirit and moves like they did in the film. One character even quizzes you on movie trivia, rewarding fans for their love of the source material.

The monsters Jack fights feel natural to the franchise as well, being based on designs from Oogie's lair in the movie. Each one defeated drops souls, which allows players to purchase better items and upgrades. Jack can taunt the monsters to gain more currency at the risk of them becoming more powerful and aggressive. But those upgrades are worth it, and when maxed out, Jack becomes a true force to be reckoned with. Players may find themselves singing along with the characters as they fight, and feeling very satisfied at getting the rhythm games right.

Unfortunately, as an older game it’s difficult to find, and a revamped rerelease is unlikely. Still, it scratches that itch Nightmare Before Christmas fans have to revisit the world of Jack Skellington. It's a rare gem, but if you can find it, it's definitely worth a playthrough.
