If you delete a game on nintendo switch can you redownload it

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I couldn't find any info. Basically I'm wondering if I download a game to the internal storage (no sd card inserted), then delete it, will the system still have the game's save data? So if I download the game again to an sd card, I don't have to start a new game. If anyone can knows, it would be greatly appreciate!

If you delete a game ( specifically a cartridge game ), is it gone forever along with the save data, or can you redownload it with the save data all still there like on PS4 ?

RockrrGirrl19 5 years ago#2

No, it's gone. There are no cloud saves.

Hopefully they will add cloud saves when the paid accounts go live in the fall.

Using the Archive Software or Delete Software options will not affect the save data. You'd have to manually delete that with the Manage Save Data/Screenshots option.

So to be clear, if I delete the game off of my home menu, the save data will still be there should I choose to re-download it in the future even though the game I want to delete is a cartridge ?

Accidently deleted digital game, can't redownload it?

  1. I accidentally deleted a digital game from my switch and when I went to the eshop to redownlaod it, it says "purchased" and I checked to see if I could redownload it but nothing shows up there either.

Accepted Answer

  1. Check to see if the icon for the game is on your Home Menu. Typically, when you delete a game instead of archiving it, the icon will still be there. If the icon is still there, you can select it and choose "Download" and it will re-download itself.

If the icon is not there, then go to the eShop (with the account that purchased the game), and then select your account icon in the corner of the screen to access Account Information. On the left side of the screen you should find an option that says "Redownload." Access it to get a list of things you've purchased, find the game you deleted, and redownload it.
