How to watch andrew garfield spider man

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available on VOD, and the superhero movie is still a smash hit across the globe.

The film explores the multiverse, meaning that it features characters from previous Spider-Man films, including Willem Dafoe as The Green Goblin, and Jamie Foxx as Electro.

Therefore, if you want to fully understand what’s going on in the film, you really need to have already watched the previous Spider-Man flicks. Here, we explain which films you need to watch, what order to watch them in and all the places you can currently stream them in the UK and US.

You can find out when Spider-Man: No Way Home is releasing on streaming services and DVD/Blu-ray and check out our post-credits scene guide to the new film. We also have a similar guide for watching the Batman films.

Spider-Man: No Way Home explores stories across three different film universes. It begins with the Tobey Maguire trilogy directed by Sam Raimi, is followed by the Andrew Garfield series directed by Marc Webb and then moves to the Tom Holland trilogy directed by Jon Watts.

It doesn’t really matter in what order you watch each of those series, but it is important to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home last. Otherwise many of the characters and plots that are referenced won’t make any sense.

We’ve included the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in this list. It’s not essential viewing for No Way Home, but it does explore the concept of the multiverse – and it’s also a brilliant movie.

Here’s the list of Spider-Man movies, the year they were released (or are due to be released), and the order to watch them.

Tobey Maguire trilogy (Raimiverse)

  • Spider-Man (2002)
  • Spider-Man 2 (2004)
  • Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Andrew Garfield series (Webbverse)

  • The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Tom Holland trilogy (MCU)

  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Into the Spider-Verse films (Animated)

  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
  • Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One (releasing in cinemas on 7 October 2022)
  • Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part Two (releasing in cinemas in 2023)

Where to stream and watch the Spider-Man films

Now you know the order, here’s where you can currently watch the Spider-Man movies and all the films in the additional viewing section below.

Streaming services change their libraries regularly and sometimes movies can get pulled unexpectedly. But the information below was correct at the time of writing.

If you can’t find a particular movie, you can visit JustWatch and search for the film you’re looking for to see where it’s available to stream.

For viewers in the UK, five Spider-Man films will be available to stream directly on Disney+ from Friday 17 June 2022. We assume that these movies will also be pulled from Netflix on this date, but we will update this article with the new listings to reflect where the films are available.

UK

Virgin TV Go is the only provider that has all the Spider-Man films, but Netflix UK is currently the next-best option if you’re not a Virgin customer with the right TV package.

  • Spider-Man – Netflix, Virgin TV Go

You can also buy the DVDs and Blu-rays from Amazon or HMV.

USA

Here’s which streaming platforms currently have Spider-Man movies in America. Neither of the Venom films are available on any US streaming platform, so you’ll have to buy or rent them.

Of course, you can rent or buy all of these digitally on Vudu, Amazon, Google Play, iTunes and YouTube, or buy the DVD and Blu-ray editions from Amazon or Walmart.

US viewers will notice that there are a lot of Spider-Man films on Netflix, and you can access UK exclusives from the US by using a VPN. Needless to say, you’ll still need a valid subscription for Netflix.

In terms of VPNs, we recommend NordVPN, Surfshark and PureVPN.

Additional viewing for Spider-Man

Though these aren’t standalone Spidey films, they do provide additional context about Peter Parker, and expand on the universe that his character is from.

Firstly, there are the MCU films which feature Tom Holland as Peter Parker. His character is first introduced into the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, and he also features in two Avengers films. Here’s what these films are, and where there fit into his overall story arc:

  • Captain America: Civil War (2016) – Watch before Spider-Man: Homecoming
  • Avengers: Infinity War (2018) – Watch before Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • Avengers: Endgame (2019) – Watch before Spider-Man: Far From Home

Then there’s Sony’s universe, which includes characters from the Spider-Man comics. However, this is a separate universe from Marvel’s. Again, they’re not essential viewing, but they do take inspiration from the original comics.

  • Venom (2018)
  • Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
  • Morbius (releasing in cinemas on 1 April 2022)
