How to turn voice guide off samsung tv

The Samsung TV Voice Assistant and Guide is a useful feature that allows using voice controls to perform various functions.

However, it can get annoying with all the screen reading and talkback.

A few weeks ago, I was hanging out with my friends and we decided to watch a show together.

However, since the Samsung TV voice assistant accessibility setting was on, the TV kept reading the names of the shows out loud.

Moreover, there were many people talking in the room, so the assistant kept thinking that the parts of the conversation were commands.

That is when I decided I don’t want the voice assistant taking over anymore.

I browsed through the TV menu to turn voice commands and guide off but could not find the required setting.

Hence, I hopped onto the internet to look for a possible solution. Turns out, there are several methods of deactivating the voice assistant.

To turn off the Samsung voice assistant you can use the volume button on the remote or use voice commands to ask the TV to deactivate the Bixby and accessibility settings.

In addition to these, I have also mentioned other methods of turning off voice assistant on older Samsung TVs, modifying Bixby wake-up sensitivity, and deactivating Samsung TV’s audio description.

What Exactly Does the Samsung TV Voice Assistant Do?

Samsung TV voice assistant or voice guide is a narrator that helps users read through the text on the screen.

It is powered by Bixby and lets you perform several functions like changing the volume and switching between channels without having to use the remote.

The system is also compatible with Samsung’s Smart Hub.

Hence, if you have a smart home setup, you can easily control these functions using a smart speaker or Bixby on your phone.

However, some people like me find the whole narration and waking up during movies a little annoying, which is why turning it off is the best option.

For Samsung TV models that were launched between 2008 and 2013, you have to turn off the audio description instead of voice assistant.

Moreover, the operating system used is different so the steps that you have to follow are also different. Follow these steps if you have a Samsung TV launched before 2014:

  • Turn the TV on.
  • Go to Menu and scroll to Sound Mode. Press ok.
  • Select the Broadcast setting and go to Audio language.
  • Instead of selecting English AD (Audio Description) select English only.

This will turn the audio description off.

Disable Bixby

Since Samsung’s voice assistant is based on Bixby, disabling the Bixby assistant will disable the voice guide.

This method is an alternative to disabling the voice guide.

Some users have complained that even after turning the voice guide off, the TV keeps narrating the text on the screen.

If you are facing the same problem follow these steps to disable Bixby:

  • Turn the TV on.
  • Go to menu and select Settings.
  • Scroll to General Settings and select Bixby Voice Settings.
  • Turn the Voice Wakeup off.

Modify Bixby Wake-Up Sensitivity

Bixby is a very useful tool that helps you navigate through different functions on your TV.

Hence, if you are disabling it only because it keeps reacting to your voice even though you are not talking to it, there is a workaround.

You can modify Bixby’s wakeup sensitivity to curb the issue. Follow these steps:

  • Turn the TV on.
  • Go to menu and select Settings.
  • Scroll to General Settings and select Bixby Voice Settings.
  • Go To Voice Sentivity and Select Low.

You can also choose medium or high sensitivity but then the voice assistant will keep waking up. In addition to this, you can also change the voice of the assistant using these settings.

Contact Support

If you are still unable to turn the voice assistant off or are having issues that are specific to your TV, it is better to get in touch with Samsung Customer Support.

The customer care representative will be able to guide you better through the process.

Conclusion

Disabling voice assistant on Samsung TVs is not exactly rocket science.

However, if you are still not able to turn the setting off, you might be following the wrong instructions.

For this, make sure you have identified the model of your Samsung TV correctly. For this, find the user manual of the TV and look up the specific model of your TV.

Now, follow the instructions depending on the model number of your Samsung TV and the year of release.
