First one drilled a hole, but went only partially in, as the same as other reviewers have photographed and shown.Second hole, it didnt go in, didnt do anything except drill a huge hole in my wall... highly disappointed I wasted money on this item and will now have to spend money to make repairs it caused.Bottom line: spend your money on something else because this isnt worth it.

I just don't understand how these anchors can get negative reviews. I think they work just great, at least for my application. I had one of those closet maid metal shelving bracket fail. It was due to no screws being placed on the stud, also they used the cheap grey anchors that come with the shelving unit. I would not make the same mistake.
Here is what I did. First I took a nail and nailed it in to the drywall about 1/4 of an inch, making sure that the nail was driven STRAIGHT. Then with an El Cheapo screwdriver (one of those 4 in one HF jobs with the blue handle- using the thicker Phillips size) I drove the anchor into the drywall straight until I could fill it "bite" into the drywall and dig in. You could probably use a drill but since I only had 5 anchors I was too lazy to go to the garage and dig out my power tool. I would recommend using the lowest setting if using a power drill. Once it is all the way in, then move on to the next one. It helps to use a chalk line to keep all your anchors straight and true. I will be using these when I get around to building some floating shelves. I will use two screws in the studs, and two more anchor screws to give the shelves plenty of stability.

I know everyone usually wants the gist of a review, please see the bottom for my quick summary, or continue reading!

I'll make this short and quick. I purchased several different brands of wall anchors, because of the arrival times, I needed them ASAP. When using this brand, MOST worked well and as designed, but I did have 2-3 out of the batch that broke instantly when using.

I didn't look, which I wish I did, but I don't know if they were pre-cracked or pre-damaged in some way, or what, but as soon as I started screwing them in the wall they broke. I hope this was just a bad batch, but I didn't buy more from this company to find out.

Quick Summary:

* Ease of Use: 5 Stars
* Pricing: COMPARABLE
* Sturdiness: 3 Stars - because 2-3 broke - not user error either.
* Installation: EASY
* Recommend to others: YES - as long as I only received a bad batch, cannot confirm or deny this.
* Continue using myself: No - Do not need more.
* Final Thoughts: None.

Thank you for reading my review, please let me know if this was helpful!

I use these suckers all the time to hang shelves, mirrors etc. Very handy and easy to install......when you use a few simple steps. After measure and leveling for hight/location I pre drill holes with bit size 15/64 ( or bit size less than the plastic anchor, but close in size) Then I use a metal (same) anchor to bore into the sheet rock. That bores the thread as sometimes the plastic can snap.....depending on force/torc of drill. Then I remove the metal anchor and screw in the plastic.Just takes a few more minutes but does the trick. I work off the Task Rabbit app/platform so Im installing quite a bit. They can support up to 50/60 lbs vertical hang.
Hope this helps.

very effective and sturdy in dry wall.

These wall anchors are a good choice to simplify installation without a drill. Be careful not to overpower screwing them into the drywall. I recommend doing it by hand and not using a power driver because they can strip out if you use too much force.

These are the exact anchor and screw set that I needed.

Do you need a drill for self drilling anchors?

Installation. Using a screwdriver—we do not recommend the use of a drill—you can screw these fasteners into drywall without pre-drilling. Watch out, though. If you have a heavily-painted wall, you want to “break” the surface first before screwing in the plastic anchor.

How self drilling drywall anchors work?

Self-drilling anchors: The anchor is threaded like a screw and has a sharp tip that drives into the drywall surface. The self-drilling anchor threads grip the drywall for a secure fit for drywall anchor installation. The anchor holds as the screw is twisted into place.

Do self drilling anchors need pilot holes?

Self-Drilling Anchors You can install them in the wall without drilling a pilot hole. Like expansion anchors, driving a screw into the anchor splits the body of the anchor to hold it against the drywall. The threads on the anchor give additional holding power.
