How to check transmission fluid on 2013 ford escape

Actually, the first question is “Do I need to change my transmission fluid at all?” For the answer, consult your Ford Owner’s Manual. Unless there’s a leak or a problem, some newer transmissions are designed to never need a fluid change.

But let’s say your car does need a transmission fluid flush as part of preventive maintenance. The top reason to change it is to keep your transmission operating at its best. Like any other fluid such as engine oil, transmission fluid becomes less effective over time. Stop-and-go driving, towing or other high-stress conditions can shorten its life even further. Unlike other fluids, however, transmission fluid doesn’t just lubricate the transmission parts, it also acts as hydraulic fluid, helping keep the transmission cooler and helping with shifts.

In a practical sense, the most important reason to perform preventive maintenance on your transmission comes down to dollars and cents: getting a transmission fluid flush might cost you a few hundred dollars, but a new transmission will cost thousands.

The engine in your 2013 Ford Escape should be running when you perform a transmission fluid level check, otherwise it will be inaccurate. The video above shows where the transmission fluid dipstick is located in your Escape and how to check the transmission fluid level. If the transmission fluid level in your Escape is low, you need to add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. When adding transmission fluid to your Escape, be sure to add it slowly as it will fill up quickly and is difficult to remove excess fluid if you overfill.

If you are having problems with the transmission in your Escape, such as clunky shifting or hesitation, check the fluid level first - it is amazing how many drivers pay thousands of dollars for transmission work when a half quart of transmission fluid would have fixed the problem.

To check the transmission fluid on the Ford Escape is simple and takes a few minutes. What you're going to want to do first is drive your vehicle for about 20 minutes so that the oil can warm up. Then, park your vehicle and activate the parking brake. Do not turn off the vehicle. Then, pull on the hood release lever to open the hood. Once the hood is open, prop it so it won't fall down on you. Then, pull out the transmission dipstick and wipe the fluid off with a shop towel. Insider the dipstick back in and pull it out again. You should now be able to see your transmission fluid level accurately on the dipstick.

A 2017 Ford escape doesn't have a dip stick for transmission fluid.

The top answer is the wrong answer. The 2017 Escape does not have a dipstick. Supposedly the transmission oil is good for 150,000 miles although I wouldn't wait that long. There is a port that can be accessed thru the driver side wheel well. You unscrew port screw with the engine warmed up and running. If tranny oil comes out it's overfilled. Leave this screw out until no more oil comes out. This is usually done as the last step in the transmission oil change procedure to make sure the level is correct

I have a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid and it does not have a dipstick to check transmission fluid levels. From the research I’ve done, I’m going to have to lift the entire car level (to get an accurate reading), take off the driver’s side wheel well, and put in some fluid if there isn’t already some pouring out from the plug. Really wish I just had a dipstick lol

I have a 2017 escape and I don’t know where the dip still is at

Checking the transmission fluid on a 2013 Ford Escape should be left to the dealer or repair shop because the vehicle needs to be lifted and level. Once lifted and secured, the plastic skid plate needs to be removed, it is fastened with several 10 mm bolts. Next remove the fill level plug on the drivers side of the transmission. The fluid should be level with the bottom of the hole. It is difficult to see in the hole without a mirror or a camera, most mechanics will fill with transmission fluid until the it just begins to leak out of the hole. The fill plug should be torqued to 71 foot-pounds. If the fluid level is low, use Motorcraft MERCON LV automatic transmission fluid or an equivalent.

On a 2013 ford escape there is a transmission dipstick under the hood for checking the transmission fluid.

There is no transmission dip stick on a 2013 Ford Escape. The only way to check is it to take it to a shop. You can pour fluid in however but try not to overfill it.

The 2013 Ford Escape does not have a dipstick. It has to be checked by raising the vehicle and removing the plug in the side of the transmission. Make sure the vehicle is level and transmission is hot. Use only MercronLV fluid.

For those of y'all that haven't a clue May 27, 2022

THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK ON, IN, OR AROUND A 2013 FORD ESCAPE!

Make sure that the car is on level ground, and open the hood of the car. Look for the transmission fluid dipstick, this should be near the engine of the car, and has a yellow handle. Remove the dipstick, and wipe the dipstick on a paper towel. Put the dipstick back and remove it once more and then look at the transmission fluid film that is on the dipstick. If the fluid level is below the fill line, fluid needs to be added. While wearing gloves, rub some of the fluid between your fingers. The liquid should be clear or light pink, but if it smells burnt, it needs to be replaced.
