By default, all Verizon cell phones only display the phone number of the caller on the caller ID. Verizon land line phones display the name of the person associated with the account. If you'd rather have your name appear, you want your name and number to be blocked completely or you'd like another type of identification on your outgoing calls, you'll need to talk with Verizon customer service directly. As long as the phone plan is in your name, you'll be able to change the way your name appears on another person's phone when you make outgoing calls. Show Default Name and Number

I recently went through a terrible and scary situation. Earlier this morning, I found out my phone number has been changed to a random number without my own authorization !!! I was so freaked out and shocked!!! My original area code was 213(Los Angeles) and suddenly it was changed to some random number starting with Nebraska 402 area code.. What was worse is i had not even noticed it for almost a week... I missed all my important business calls and text msgs. Some of my customers and colleagues sent me emails saying that "I tried to call you but there was something wrong with your number, maybe i got it wrong" but nobody including me even thought about the possibility of number change. Who would imagine that his/her own phone number has been changed without his/own authorization??? It did happen though.... I called to VZW customer care right away, and they said it looks like someone hacked my VZW internet account and requested number change. I have no idea what that crazy guy wanted from changing my number.... but I had not logged in my VZW internet account for about a month, so it was definitely a hacking. What I was really upset about was, I haven't received any email or written notice from VZW regarding the number change. Changing cell phone number is not an easy/common thing to do and it's one thing that you really need to be careful about, but VZW went through NO authorization or double check process on it.Someone just hacked into my account and after a few clicks, they just let this number get changed .....This is too unsafe and irresponsible for VZW, i think. Luckily I got to get back my original number after almost an hour long conversation and fight with few different VZW representatives, but I'm still very upset and disappointed what happened to me. I strongly urge VZW to add more security on their website and set up some kind of verifying process when someone is requesting number change online. I still don't know what to do with the one week that i lived with weird phone number that i didnt even know and all the losses caused by it.

I hope you changed your verizonwireless password. Make sure you change any other accounts if you shared that same password or something very close. Are you sure there are no other changes or charges to your account? Often a phone is ordered in this situation. Did he change the email on file so that if a notification did go out, it would go to the thief and not you. That is a crazy experience. 08-17-2015 10:19 PM

This happened to me today!!! I was told that the changes were made on my "MyVerizon" account, but I had not even logged in except to see why my phone was acting strange. The customer rep was able to get me back my old number, luckily, but I am still having data connection issues. Not fun. 08-20-2015 06:18 AM
I regret to learn you had issues with your My Verizon account, and now data connectivity issues, SL5383. Let's bring the fun back to your VZW service. How long have you been experiencing these data connection issues? Are you getting any error messages? Are these issues with apps or the browser of your device? How many bars of signal are you getting? Are you picking up 4G/LTE?

I am having this exact issue. My change somehow happened around 4 days ago and like you, I didn't notice until today when people started complaining and telling me they couldn't reach me. Lo and behold I check my number and it's been changed to some random number in Missouri (I live in California and had a southern California area code). I wasn't even notified this change was happening when it did, either. So like any other human being with a shred of common sense I assume Verizon has a 24/7 support line and try calling around 9pm on a Saturday and what do I find out? They don't have 24/7 support. I used the chat function and got someone but they said it's probably fraud (which I also find hard to believe because all they did was change my phone number) and I would need to talk to the fraud department. OK, at least the fraud department should be 24/7 right? WRONG! They only operate Monday through Saturdays 8am to 8pm. WHAT?!? I'm going to call general customer service tomorrow but if they can't get my number back I'll have to wait for the fraud department on Monday. I changed the MyVerizon password but I doubt it'll change anything. I'm so frustrated right now. Verizon, you fail pretty hard. 08-23-2015 12:17 AM
If phone number has been changed without your authorization, then probably someone in your family changed it for you. 09-01-2015 10:47 AM
This happened to me too. This problem reported a lot more at a local portal website. What's going on Verizonwireless? 09-09-2015 10:51 AM
This happened to me too. A rep was able to get me back the old number, but 15 mins later it changed again! Creepy. Fraud dept has been ignoring me. 08-15-2020 07:24 AM The same happened to us, it’s incredible! What is wrong with Verizon. Why do you change our phone number. My son is in Turkey now his phone changed he has his phone number associated to many things like you he is in a big trouble. We are so upset 08-15-2020 07:28 AM yesterday I wrote here all the trouble we are facing since we switched to Verizon. The worst decision of our life. Then I received a private
email and somebody was supposed to reach out to me shortly. I don’t know what shortly means with Verizon it’s been a day now nobody called so far.

How do you know if someone got their number changed?Usually if the number has been changed it will not have a voicemail.. It will not ring 2xs and go to a recorded message.. It would say Number is not available. ... . Subscriber is not able to receive calls.. Something like that.. If the person has changed it you could reach out to those friends in common (stalker.). How do I know if someone's number is no longer in service? There is no sure way to tell. When you call, you might get a message that the number is either unreachable or the caller is not accepting calls at this time, meaning their number could be canceled, changed, phone could be turned off, dead battery or your number could be blocked on their end.
What happens if you change your number Verizon? There's no charge to change your mobile number in the My Verizon app or online in My Verizon. There is a $15 fee if you call customer service to change your number.
What happens if you call a number that has been changed?Originally Answered: If someone changes there phone number, and I call the original one, will it still ring? If someone changes their number and the old number has not been reassigned, you'll get a message to the effect that the number is not in service. It's pretty immediate.
