Show 5.0 out of 5 stars First impression right out of the box... This is my honest, just delivered, straight out of the box impression. Without trying these babies out on a fishing trip my first impression is that these are of excellent quality. When I came across these ground spike rod holders I liked the design but was concerned that the top portion where the pole rests was going to be plastic but it is not. With the exception of the plastic side screw that holds the ground spike and the rod holder together, the rest of it is made of a heavy duty metal. For the price point (and getting a pair of rod holders and not just one) the quality is impressive. I gave 4 stars since I have not tried them out yet but I will update my review after I have taken them out.UPDATE:: I took these out this afternoon to test them out and my rating has gone from a 4 star to a 5 star. They performed well, were exactlyWhat I imagined, and was super easy to adjust them as I needed too (both the angle and the direction). HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I was going to purchase a rigging for ground fishing that would have cost me around $150 but then I found these. I feel they are comparable and so much more affordable! Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2022 Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2019 I
bought these and finally got to try them after a couple of weeks. I bought them mainly to use at the river. There might be times that I use them at a lake or pond. The bad: The prongs are too short in the cases where you must insert them all the way in order for them to firmly retain your rod/reel should a larger fish get hooked
on your line while you are busy baiting another line or tending to other gear. When fishing in sandy areas, muddy areas or even a complete sandbar, one must angle the holder backwards when you place it into the "ground". They are pretty sufficient in holding when inserted in more solid ground. Summary: I probably would purchase these again or purchase an additional set in case I want to fish more than two lines at a time or if someone goes with me. I hope that the seller reads these reviews and maybe consider using metal adjustment rings and perhaps offering some with longer prongs as an option. I love them. Only drawback not good in very rocky ground areas. 4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy Reviewed in Canada on June 18, 2021 Hubby said they work great. Took a min to get it set up right. Great product, sturdy and worth the price. Will be giving them a test this week. Tried in the back yard and works great What size PVC should I use for fishing rod holder? In order to learn how to make sand spike rod holders we're going to need a schedule 40 PVC pipe (size found in red on the side of the pipe as “SCH 40”) in a 1-1/2 inch width (also found on the side of the pipe). This is an important size to have because it will fit most of your fishing poles right in the end of it.
