Discussion Starter · #1 · Jul 29, 2010 Hi Guys, Long story short, I had some issues with my Jeep's (05/V6/60K) transmission, 2nd to 3rd gear up shift was pretty rough, so took it to the dealer for check up. Service Tech came back saying that there were no codes or nothing that indicates anything wrong with the transmission. However, he also said that the Final Drive Control
Module (FDMC) has failed and needs to be replaced (965$) in addition to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) not fully functioning and that will also need to be replaced for 226$. Anyways, I got all that done for a total of 1216$ all covered under extended warranty. Problem started when I got home, about 30 mile drive from dealer, The service Elec Brake system light came on. I called them back and they told me they didn't mess with my brakes, and that the FDMC got nothing to do with the
brake system at all. Is this right? I mean I don't know the exact function of the Final Drive Control thing, Any input on whether this is related or not? Thanks Joined

The final drive control module uses the ABS sensor as inputs to control the 4wd system. ABS system will communicate with the FDCM so yes the FDCM can set an ABS code.

Question: If the FDCM does set an ABS code can it also lock the differential actuators preventing any drive movement in the
vehicle? That's what is happening in my 2005 Grand Cherokee. Goes into gear but will not move. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Tec hasn't been around for awhile now. The FDCM does activate the diff ELSD solenoid as well as the clutches in the transfer case, but that wouldn't stop a vehicle from moving. I would put all 4 wheels on jack stands and try to rotate the tires by hand . All 4 should turn with one wheel and any wheel that doesn't turn will have a braking force applied to it. Also the e-brake shoes are located in the rear rotor hats and are notorious for delaminating and locking up.

Feb 17, 2014 (Edited) Service 4wd system - after recall flash UPDATE! Had a spare Final Drive Control Module that was replaced by dealer last year as "bad". It has not had the FDCM flash. Installed and Service 4WD System error went away and system works fine. Went
to dealer and explained. They still say it's not the flash of the removed module and want to "tear down" my system to find problem. System works fine already. What will they tear down to find what? So, the flash left my FDCM in a broken condition and they won't re-flash. Want to charge me to diagnose. Jeep are you paying attention. I am a FORMER Jeep buyer. Learn or perish. I will now drive and depend on emergency brake to keep my faulty transfer case from switching to Neutral and
rolling away while off and parked. NHTSA here I come. Better Business Bureau here I come. TV station here I come. Star Case here I come. It is a messed up system. It started with the abs BAS and ESP lights and the squiggly lines along with check engine lights.

Recall flash for transfer case failed. Had done at dealer. Then no 4Lo. Service 4WD System error. See Jeep Forum for extensive discussion and PDF for correct flash procedure. . Had 4lo before and now gone. Jeep dealer wants $220 to check/diagnose the transfer case position sensor and the wiring. Going back
with the flash procedure PDF. Will insist they reflash with three clears of the codes. Will file complaint with Jeep and NHTSA. Anybody know a good Toyota dealer in New Orleans? Love my Jeep but it's my last. Poured money in repairs and I'm anal about maintenance and kind driving.
I had a lot of trouble after I had my re-flash done and complained a lot on Facebook.

Next morning lights were on
and brakes locked with abs.
After I got moving all was fine until I shut the engine off.
Went to dealer and they replace sensor. 2 hrs underway the lights came on again but the brakes were not locking.
The lights came on for a while then off a while.
Then they went off and haven't seen them for 3 days now. WTF??? Fix itself?
Been a week now and still working ok.
