City News...where we connect people, projects and service July 2022 Welcome New City Manager Darrell George
El Segundo City Council has appointed Darrell George as the new City Manager. George has been serving as Interim City Manager since March and brings more than 30 years of public service and leadership experience to the position. "El Segundo continues to evolve as the preeminent high-profile business hub and a great place to raise a family in Southern California. Aly Mancini has been selected as the City's new Recreation, Parks and Library Director after a highly competitive recruitment process. Mancini brings more than three decades of experience in recreation and parks leadership. Join us on Monday, July 4th, for the annual Fourth of July event in Recreation Park! Daytime events, including a hula hoop contest, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest, pie-eating contest, 3-legged sack races, toddler and youth races, and a diaper derby, take place from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and evening events including live music and food booths from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Fireworks start at 9:00 pm. Come out for some fun in the sun - Hilltop Pool is open every day through August 22nd! It is free with a valid El Segundo Rec ID and $5.50 for non-residents. Space can be rented to host a party on Thursdays – Sundays from 12:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m. with a 2-hour minimum for 1 to 20 guests; reservations cost $108 for non-residents and $36 for El Segundo residents. The El Segundo Wiseburn Aquatics Center Competition Pool is open for for lap swim and permit groups. Please note, the heaters are still under repair, the water temperature may be lower than expected, and that guests are swimming at their own risk. Summer Concerts in the Park continue on select Sundays in July and August in Library Park. All concerts feature food trucks, so bring an appetite and get ready to get your groove on! Shows start at 4:30 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. Blankets can be placed in the park after 1:00 p.m., and kids’ crafts and giveaways will be available in the Gazebo starting at 4:00 p.m. before each concert. Chairs are allowed, but no glass containers or plastic tarps, please. All ages are welcome to come and enjoy afternoons of great entertainment!

Summer of Fun at the Farmers’ MarketThe Farmers’ Market is kicking it up a notch this summer! Every Thursday through August 18th there will be a special theme with exciting activities, arts and crafts, and more! Free activities include games, prizes, live entertainment, face painting, bouncers, craft projects, and giveaways.

Enjoy a day in the sun and help keep our beaches clean by volunteering for the Community Beach Clean-up at El Segundo Beach on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 9:00-11:00 a.m., hosted by Kiwanis and Chevron. Thank you to the members of the City’s Environmental Committee who will be among the community volunteers! Commemorative t-shirts will be available for the first 150 volunteers and we hope you can bring your eco-energy out to participate! Free Paper Shredding, E-Waste & Mulch Event!
EDCO and the City of El Segundo are sponsoring a free paper shredding, e-waste collection, and mulch event on Saturday, July 30th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the El Segundo Maintenance Facility at 150 Illinois Street. There will be certified shredding trucks and all items will be shredded ONSITE! Limited to two banker boxes (10”x12”x15”) per household. Unwanted electronics will also be collected, including TVs, computer monitors, printers, fax machines, VCRs, etc. However, no household hazardous waste (HHW) material will be accepted. Also available will be free mulch for residents (while supplies last). This is a self-serve, self-loading service, so please bring your own cans/bags and shovel. There is a limit of three cans/bags per vehicle and if you plan to haul your mulch in an open truck or trailer, please remember to bring a tarp to cover your material.
