Can you sell something on facebook marketplace without friends seeing

I have probably sold over 5k of items on Facebook marketplace, I believer as long as you dont select the "post to more places" it should be fine. Just be aware that if people are salty about what you are selling (Nintendo products for more than retail switches cough) then they'll harass you pretty bad.

Salty neckbeards even reported my account and had Facebook temporarily block it until I provided proof of ID to show I was really who I said I was (yeah apparently thats a thing).

Where I live facebook covers a larger market that people who buy and sell from craigslist so I prefer to sell on it especially if its items targeted to younger people.

So in order to combat this Facebook launched a feature called “Hide Listings from Friends''. This feature did exactly as the title said, it let the user hide their price lists from the people in their Facebook friend list. But now that feature is going away as reported by Ahmed Ghanem on Twitter Tuesday morning.

In a screenshot posted by Ghanem a message from Facebook said that this feature is going away, however that will not affect the users existing listings and they can still hide specific lists from their friend list when they create a new one using another setting.

This new step might be a disadvantage for the user as their family might not be in favor of the pricing that the user has decided or they might have been giving to the fried for less and seeing the actual price list might make them feel embarrassed. Also they might get hate and unwanted advice on pricing from people whom they don’t want advice from.

The Facebook Marketplace is a great place to get rid of things you no longer want or need while making a few bucks in the process. Sometimes though, there’s an item or two you want to list that you don’t want your friends knowing about.

Thankfully, Facebook allows you to list items like these and hide them from your friends. The system isn’t perfect, so you should read up on who might be able to see your listing, but it might be enough to fit your needs.

In this article, we’ll show you how to hide Facebook Marketplace listings from your Facebook friends on your Android, iPhone, or PC.

Yes, but there are some exceptions. Currently, only listings with the “Item” category can be hidden from your Facebook friends. Vehicles, rentals, and property can’t be hidden from your friends.

Note that new listings won’t automatically post to your timeline, but if your listing is not hidden from friends then they may come across it while browsing the Facebook Marketplace.

How to Hide New Facebook Marketplace Listings from Friends

You can hide new Facebook Marketplace listings from friends by toggling on the Hide from friends option when creating a new listing. Here’s how, step-by-step, on your Android, iPhone, or PC:

Android/iPhone

  1. Open the Facebook mobile app and sign into your account.
  2. Tap your Profile picture/3 bars in the upper right corner and then tap the Marketplace tile on the following screen.
  3. Tap the Person icon in the upper right corner of the Facebook Marketplace and then tap Create New Listing.
  4. In the menu that appears, select the Items listing type. Unfortunately, you can’t currently hide other listing types from your friends.
  5. On the following screen, scroll down to the Listing Options section and tap the Toggle icon to the right of Hide from friends to enable it.
  6. Finish creating your listing and publish it as you would any other listing. It will not be visible to your friends on Facebook or in Messenger.

Desktop/PC

  1. Open Facebook.com in your web browser and sign into your account.
  2. Click Marketplace in the menu on the left. You can also simply open //www.facebook.com/marketplace/ in your web browser.
  3. In the leftmost menu of the Marketplace, click Create new listing.
  4. On the following page, select Item for Sale. Unfortunately, you can’t currently hide other listing types from your friends.
  5. In the leftmost menu, scroll down and click Hide from friends to toggle the option on.
  6. Finish creating your listing and publish it as you would any other listing. It will not be visible to your friends on Facebook or in Messenger.

How to Hide Existing Facebook Marketplace Listings from Friends

You can hide existing Facebook Marketplace listings from friends by editing your listing and toggling on the Hide from friends option. Here’s how, step-by-step, on your Android, iPhone, or PC:

Android/iPhone

  1. Open the Facebook mobile app and sign into your account.
  2. Tap your Profile picture/3 bars in the upper right corner and then tap the Marketplace tile on the following screen.
  3. Tap the Person icon in the upper right corner of the Facebook Marketplace and then tap Your Listings under Selling.
  4. Tap the 3 dots to the right of the listing your wish to hide from friends and select Edit listing.
  5. On the following screen, scroll down to the Listing Options section and tap the Toggle icon to the right of Hide from friends to enable it.

Desktop/PC

  1. Open Facebook.com in your web browser and sign into your account.
  2. Click Marketplace in the menu on the left. You can also simply open //www.facebook.com/marketplace/ in your web browser.
  3. In the leftmost menu of the Marketplace, click Selling and then Your listings.
  4. Click the 3 dots at the bottom right of the listing you wish to hide from friends and select Edit listing.
  5. In the leftmost menu of the following page, scroll down and click Hide from friends to toggle the option on.

Will my Facebook friends see if I post on Marketplace?

When you make a Facebook Marketplace pos,t it only posts to the Marketplace. You can hide the listing from friends, then it will not be seen by them, nor will it ever show up on your timeline.

Can you sell on Facebook Marketplace privately?

Click on Marketplace on the left hand side menu. Start a new listing. Complete your listing but before you click to finish, on the left hand side you'll see a 'hide from friends' toggle button. Click this toggle and your listings will be hidden from your friends.
