American airlines flights from fort lauderdale to charlotte nc

Flight got delayed on arrival and departure too. No complimentary snacks provided. Waiting time more due to flight delay

I made it home 5 hours later than planned.

They did great. My flight got cancelled and they hooked me up with an alternative route same day. Thank you for the help.

Delayed three times

Pros: "Yes made sure mask was in place"

Cons: "No"

Pros: "N/A"

Cons: "Flight attendants need to enforce all policies. It makes no sense to enforce a seat being leaned back a 1/2 inch but allow a Face Mask be worn as a Chin Guard through the entire flight instead wearing it properly!"

Pros: "No"

Cons: "There is nothing that this company can do to be better."

Cons: "American Airlines has to be the worst airlines there is. It never fails that they try I Cath someone and try to pretend that their carry-on bagIs too big. They have this tiny little frame no reasonable carry-on could possibly fit into. Over and over again I see people including myself and my traveling companion’s having to check their carry-on bag because their “too big” this is nonsense. These are standard size bags. It’s more than enough space on board the plane. In a way in which the gate check individuals handle this interaction is a palling you’re insulting demanding and don’t give you a chance to rearrange your luggage so I can go into their absurd dimensions"

Pros: "Boarding, departure and arrival were on time"

Pros: "They seated my husband and I together. The flight was smooth."

Cons: "I’m always in Group 9"

Pros: "Nothing. It’s a terrible airline. Seriously, don’t book with them unless you’re desperate or you want to have an anxiety attack."

Cons: "American isn’t my preferred airline for obvious reasons (delays, notoriously bad service, old planes, and a lack of amenities like WiFi and tv’s), but now I’ll never spend my money with them again. They took me off an already delayed flight after I’d already boarded to examine my smart bag. I know that lithium batteries can’t be taken in the underbelly of the plane and I knew my bag would likely be checked at the gate (why I removed the battery and left it at home in the first place). When they asked me if I had a lithium battery in my bag I said “no.” They then gate checked the bag and allowed me on the plane. After everyone had been boarded (half an hour after we’d been scheduled to take off) they then called my name out on the speaker. I had to then de-board the plane and re-explain to staff that there was no lithium battery in my bag. The staff didn’t believe me citing the infallible logic: “there are ports so there’s a battery.” I told them again and again that the battery had been removed and the charging ports—while there—were inert as they weren’t attached to the battery. STILL, I had to remove all of my clothes from the bag, and open every single compartment (of which there were many) for them to allow me to get back onto the plane. They were telling me that they might have to “rebook the flight” if my bag couldn’t get on. I don’t think I need to explain how agitated/terrified that made me."

Cons: "No snacks or drinks provided on any of my flights on American this weekend. 2 of them were real short so that makes sense but other 2 were long enough to have this but stopped before my row. We were Delayed, which is understandable, but not sure why we couldn't board and wait for crew to come on to speed up process rather than waiting for crew to arrive to even begin boarding process. I assume it's a safety thing but seems like there could be a better way to handle this and speed up process to make sure people aren't missing connecting flights."

Pros: "Not a lot. Entertainment options on board were decent. Food was alright."

Cons: "Everything! Crew were terse, rude and inattentive. Due to an issue with a bag on board without the associated passenger we had to taxi back to the stand for it to be removed before we could take off. This cost us an hours delay. There was limited apologies for this, no refreshments provided during the wait and poor communication of this. During the flight the staff were inattentive and sparing with refreshments. Service generally did not live up to expected level associated with an inter-continents flight. The flight was turbulent but crew and captain seemed over cautious with it and crew had to remain seated unnecessarily at times and at the detriment of passenger service. One stewardess wouldn’t even let me finish a drink before removing it from my hand claiming we were about to land and she had to sit down because of turbulence. We were still 40 mins from landing at this point! All in all a pretty bad flight, and it’s safe to say I won’t be flying American Airlines again."

Pros: "Seat was ok because we paid more or has a “status”"

Cons: "Nothing has changed and nothing will-services is nothing to write home about, with yr little pack of pretzels-i am happy to get safely to my destination and that’s all that matters"

Pros: "Crew were amazing despite all the delays throughout the day"

Cons: "The weather lol"

Cons: "In every segment they failed & just continually nickel & dime you."

Cons: "The delayed flight was an issue, this caused me to miss my connecting flight. Punctuality is very important to me and should be to your airline."

Pros: "It was actually a little early and that was nice."

Cons: "Not much room."

Pros: "Plane was new and clean..good leg room."

Cons: "Being told to shut window blinds and spent most of the journey in darkness. No hot drinks. Long gaps between cold drinks. Staff not very friendly."

Pros: "Because the flight was delayed the captain and crew did everything in their power to get us to Charlotte without any more delay than there already was."

Cons: "Only issue we had is that the flight was delayed, other than it was an okay flight."

Pros: "Good legroom on economy"

Pros: "Great crew, comfortable flight."

Pros: "The plane was late but from that point everything was fine."

Cons: "Nothing"

Pros: "The in flight experience and entrrntainment was great."

Cons: "The preboarding process by American Airlines was really bad. My passport was looked at 6 times before I boarded. This is after going though passport control by Spain officials at the airport. AA has people waving you down the aisle looking at your passport and sending you to then Verify my boarding pass and that I had documents ok to travel, they told me I did and still sent me over to a security person who asked more questions than the immigration officials in the US, he then sent me to the counter to get my passport scanned ( not sure what that meant), after waiting 10 minutes of waiting the counter clerk asked me what I needed and I told her I was sent there, it was evident there was no reason for me to be there and she printed my boarding pass, which I didn’t need since I had a mobile pass. Then when boarding the aee two people asking a bunch of questions about people having control of their items and looking at your documents which the person who scans to board does again...really very inefficient and slow, it sure it is really helping with safety. Could be done smoother, faster and a lot less people."

Pros: "When the plane finally arrived everything went smoothly"

Cons: "Our flight was delayed at least 5x. We started getting delays around 1pm but our flight wasn’t scheduled to leave until 7pm. We were on a connecting flight so it was no chance of making the second leg of our flight. I used an AA discount to get a room in Charlotte but we didn’t get to the airport until almost 2am so I had called to cancel that hour before making it to Charlotte but was told I may still be charged for the room even tho at this point it was outta my control. It would be great if the airline took care of giving you shelter when you are stuck in limbo with no reason behind while you are stuck. American is a good airline but they seriously dropped the ball this trip."

Pros: "I decided to travel First Class from Houston TX and that was the greatest choice I ever made. IAH requires travelers to arrive 2-3 hrs early due to traffic or weather conditions. I checked in at 2 pm and waited for my 5 pm boarding call. First class was amazing! I stored my belongings without any issues. I sipped wine and dined on pasta and watched the movie Father Figures with Owen Wilson and Ed Helms. The stewardess was polite and friendly. The food was enjoyable and the passengers were friendly. The bathroom as also immaculate, I was impressed."

Cons: "No complaints!"

Pros: "Smooth flight"

Cons: "Small plane"

Pros: "The crew were attentive."

Cons: "There was no entertainment. The boarding should start from back to front."

Pros: "Friendly crew"

Cons: "Couldn't use WiFi to watch Netflix or YouTube so our 2 year old would be entertained"

Pros: "Arrived ahead of schedule."

Cons: "Some crew were not very welcoming (smile)."

Pros: "We had our passes available on our iPhone to assist the boarding process. Very enjoyable trip with the crew and we plan to fly AA again in the future."

Cons: "NA"

Pros: "The plane was newer, drinks are available. Seat only reclines half an inch or so so get ready for that."

Cons: "Crew on aa is the worst bunch of entitled fools, almost as horrendous as united."

Pros: "The flight left on time - I do appreciate that."

Cons: "We were forced to check our Uppababy Vista stroller at EWR departures that we hoped to check at the gate. Needless to say this made it difficult to get our toddler through security. At baggage claim only half our stroller was there - they had disconnected the seat from the wheels. Luckily we spotted what looked like a similar frame to ours at the gate when we landed. It then took another forty minutes for the baggage claim office person to go through security, to the arrival gate and back to baggage claim."

Pros: "Food was good as were the movies & seat"

Cons: "Gate supervisor (male) in Dublin was unhelpful. He announced theee times that the US Customes pre-clearance would close shortly. This announcement was in the gate area where everyone had already had to have cleared the Preclearance US Customs. Then when he announced boarding for priority and Business class he "pointedly" told the zones 1 thru 4 to all begin boarding at once (w/ one agent while three agents stood behind chatting) and to only use the one Priority lane. Thirty people all gathered for the very slow process. The Gate Supervisor the says he would start boarding Zones 5 and 6 in the other lane. Zones 5 & 6 all boarded while I (zone 1 passenger) and five others were still in que boarding thru the priority lane. Poor leadership. The Business Class flight attendant while serving snack, spilled my hot tea on my shirt, trousers and iPad. She was very apologetic and said that she wished she had not filled the cup so full. The tea "happens" and was no big deal. The Gate agent on the microphone in Dublin was having a bad morning and transferred his unhappyness to me, which I did not bargain for on the 27th."

Pros: "On time, efficient loading and deplaning, attendants were fine."

Cons: "The plane is old and in need of retirement or renovation. Tin foil covered a broken bulkhead in first class. Lots of squeaking, overall very dated. Better than spirit but not to American Airlines standard."

Pros: "not much they gave us snacks"

Cons: "how long i had to wait"

Cons: "I found out at the airport the day we were leaving for Spain that my daughter's passport had to be valid for 3 Months after we returned home from our trip. When booking a flight out of the country it would be nice if Air .com could of mention that to me. We were trying to get to a cruise we had already paid for that was going out of Spain. They would not work with me at all and cx my whole booking. When I tried to talk to them on the phone the man could not speak very good English and was not making any since at all. I let him talk to the British Airlines counter manager and the manager tried to explain that he would have to rebook us that he could not. Air.com was horrible and never helped us out at all. They should not be in business . I paid them of course months ago and I was just out the 1400.00 dollars. British Airlines was amazed that they did nothing to help us out."

Pros: "Nice trip...no stress"

Pros: "appreciated having enough room for my knees not to hit the seat in front of me"

Pros: "plenty of leg room. very little turbulence. fight staff was very professional. staff was very responsive to assist me in finding my passport which I had left on the plane after I had left the plane and gotten to my connecting flight."

Cons: "I wasn't pleased with the snacks. I recommend changing to different snack options; perhaps fruit snacks or nuts."

Pros: "The trip from st martin was fine in terms of check in. AA opened their windows early so we beat the crowd."

Cons: "The plane left 20 minutes late, and then we hit turbulence and a bit of rain close to our arrival in Charlotte. I had originally booked a flight through Miami with plenty of layover time to get a connecting flight to Dallas, but AA canceled that one and put me on a connection the following day! When I called customer service, they were helpful in regards booking and assured me there would be plenty of time to connect through Charlotte. When our plane landed 35 minutes late, there was only 15 minutes to connect, and we waited for baggage that whole time. No idea what took baggage so long, but the result is that we missed our flight. AA did put us on standby for the next one, but that meant our relative had to pick us up at midnight."

Cons: "The seats even in first class were so old the springs were stabbing me in the back. No entertainment system. American Airlines is ALWAYS late. I was delayed 5 hours. Food is horrid. Rating applies to all American flights I've been on."

Cons: "They lost 1 of 4 bags."

Pros: "Just getting off the plane"

Cons: "Almost everything was nightmare minus the ticket counter people*"

Pros: "American Airline flight was on time, actually, early departure and early arrival. Crew was friendly and helpful, and I arrived safely. There was room overhead for my carry-on. And I got a great deal thanks to Kayak."

Cons: "No space in the overhead bin for my section because they were filled with bags that were much bigger than carryon size."

Pros: "I landed"

Cons: "Flight was changed which left me with five minutes to get off one plane and onto another. I got to my first gate early and attempted to ask the person there about the timing. She walked away without looking at. On her way down the hall says it will be open in an hour. An hour later I go to the gate. A woman is there and finishing up with another customer. When it was my turn, she said she was closed, yet she helped the joy behind me for over an hour. I know this because I got In the generic questions line and stood there for an hour watching the woman who was "closed" help this guy. When I was FINALLY able to talk to someone, the only thing he told me was to walk fast. That was well worth the 2 hour wait. I will never fly with American again."

Cons: "Apparently my seat change did not go through because I was still stuck in the last row near the bathrooms. I must say, the fecal aroma really complemented the on set nausea that was triggered by the turbulence. Every time I thought I was gona drift off to sleep I was rudely awakened by the constant "thwacking" of the bathroom doors. The family next to me was nice enough but they did have a toddler who was very loud and unhappy and the tantrums followed. I have been a server for 14 years and generally can brush annoyances off like this but this was by far the worst flight I have been on."

Cons: "Almost missed my connection due to the Tarmac being blocked by the plane before us with a mechanical issue."

Pros: "the crew was amazing and knowledgeable"

Cons: "getting off the plane could of been quicker but I dont think that has to do with the flight."

Pros: "The fact the planes are new"

Cons: "The first flight to fll was an older plane. It was ridiculously uncomfortable! The seats are hard and mounted in place. The leg room is so narrow our knees were smashed against the seat in front. For a 4+ hr flight this was unbearable! The plane back was brand new but overbooked. Slightly more room than the last but still mounted in place and uncomfortable. I was seriously disappointed to hear that an autistic man traveling alone had missed his flight and not only was he not accommodated, ok planes full I get it! But staff didn’t even try to help him or get him a room anything. In my book this is heartless and given he’s mentally impaired you’d think you’d be slightly more sympathetic! VERY disappointed in spirit about this. Everything else I stated Became so so small compared to this. I gave him $40 out of my pocket so he had somewhere warm to stay the night. I honestly can’t say I’ll do business with spirit again after witnessing this. Just thought you should know."

Pros: "There was one crew member prior to the flight that was very helpful."

Cons: "The captain wasn’t prepared, flight experienced a 20 minute weather delay yet we needed to return to the gate for more fuel. I’ve now had two flights with Spirit and both were delayed longer than 2 hours unnecessarily."

Pros: "Flight was on time."

Cons: "Partner has heart and breathing problems. We were brought to airport early by cruise line. Spirit would not accept any bags, including heavy suitcases until 4 hours before flight, "due to just imposed TSA direction". Spoke with supervisor who hid behind policies and wouldn't even take into account the situation. They merely directed us to the cafeteria Down the hallway. I checked with a TSA agent and he investigated and said no such restrictions were communicated to any airlines. He said Spirit has been telling people that all day because they are understaffed. When we went back to drop off bags, we were only 20 minutes until the 4 hours and the agent almost wouldn't take them again until I spoke with a different supervisor again. When we got on the plane, crew didn't seem to know who was doing what. Announcement was made that if we are connecting through Baltimore to let flight attendant know so we can get gate information. When I told the flight attendant, she asked why am I telling her? And then told me to just check the board in terminal. I guess I interrupted her child counseling session with the mom ahead of us that went on the entire flight. It was one of the worst flights I have ever experienced. Won't be using Spirit ever again."

Cons: "#1.Spirit Website and Mobile apps keep crashing and several of us who booked your airlines were not able to utilize mobile boarding passes. In the age of mobility this User Experience (UX Design) should be a priority. #2. I understand your policy that you need to purchase beverages or snacks but after you have been delayed on the runway for 1hr 30 minutes you should drop that policy and at least give us some water. Overall experience was horrible and customers on the plane around me shared the same feeling. Most of them were booked by travel agents from what I'm told that utilized your airlines and now they know as well."

Pros: "Pilots did their job well. Smooth and safe flight."

Cons: "The flight attendants were extremely rude. When boarding I simply asked a lady and her granddaughter if they would be willing to trade seats due to my girlfriends anxiety during flights I wanted to be next to her. Immediately the flight attendant jumps on me saying "oh not this morning, not doing musical chairs today." I wasn't demanding anything simply asking a question to comfort a person uncomfortable with flying. Throughout the flight the crew was extremely loud, I was in the very last row of the seating, as the flight went on they were almost at a yelling level telling each other stories. Also my girlfriend over-heard some very rude comments from the flight attendants when I got up to go to the bathroom. Will not fly Spirit again."

Pros: "The actual flight( taxi, takeoff, cruise, approach, landing)"

Cons: "I am writing this review while waiting for my luggage. IT’S BEEN one hour. The ground crew wasn’t ready at ATL to guide the plane in, we had to wait. The boarding process was disorganized, with only 2 folks available to help our citizen on wheelchairs. My flight took off from Terminal 3 (gate E9), but how come nowhere was it mentioned that SPIRIT check in was on Terminal 4 (out of Fort Lauderdale). UPDATE: still waiting on my check in luggage. We reached the gate at 12:36 (midnight) and it’s now 1:33 am. Are we serious here? NEVER WILL I EVER FLY SPIRIT NOR RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. Kayak, I wish there was a way to block results from certain airlines.... in this Case SPIRIT."

Pros: "The crew was nice. Y"

Cons: "Everything else. I couldn't check in online. When I got to the airport, I was told I didn't have a flight. I showed the lady my confirmation email and she kept telling me that I only had one flight (this was my return flight home from Florida), I had to show her the difference between the two flights. Then she tried to tell me that I had cancelled my flight online..... which I hadn't, hence me being there trying to check in. Horrible company. They push their flight attendants to have customers sign up for the Spirit credit card. Just horrible horrible company."

Pros: "Absolutely nothing, I will never book spirit. First I was told that my bag was too big to board plane, fine. Giving that I was here one hour before departure, no one had the common sense to expedite my baggage check in so that I wouldn’t miss my flight that was also a non refundable ticket. No one cared that I lost a ticket to make it worst they wanted to charge me $150 for the next flight. I said forget and took my money else where it was appreciative even if it meant paying more, customer service is a big issue for, never fly spirit again anything but that. Delta was great"

Cons: "it was not evident at booking that there was a fee for carryon bags it was my first time on spirit and i knew it was no frills but $57 per carryon piece is outrageous. i chose spirit because it saved me $250 over my preferred delta i ended up spending an additional $340 for 3 carry on bags!!! if i had been aware at the very least i would have packed one large bag for the three of us and checked it for a lot less money. i am a seasoned traveler and this illogical charge was not evident at booking on priceline. I am ok paying extra for preferred seating, food, even water but my carry on? what choice do you have, travel without luggage ? this fee should be included in your comparison. makes me wonder about your site."

Pros: "Nothing"

Cons: "Our flight was delayed and we missed the connection even though we were told that the connecting flight was waiting for us. The only options provided were to wait until Tuesday (it was Sunday) without a Hotel or to receive a reimbursement and find another flight by our own. We had to buy a ticket from another airline. The reimbursement received was not even half of the amount paid or the price for one way ticket to that destination. We received a $50 voucher that expires in 2 months. No one from that flight wants to travel ever again with Spirit. Customer service was awful."

Cons: "They wouldn't let me on my original flight because I wasn't there 45 minutes before the ORIGINAL flight time even though the flight was delayed by over an hour. They told me I couldn't get a refund or another ticket. Eventually another, more helpful, representative got me a flight with a layover 4 hours later. My connection was cancelled while I was on the first flight and they left me stranded for a night, gave me a coupon for a discounted hotel that was invalid and made me pay for my own lodging and transportation to the hotel. Eventually got to my destination a full 24 hours after my original flight time. Their customer service people do not care about their jobs or the customers AT ALL. Overall HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, DO NOT FLY SPIRIT!! Thought I was saving money and ended up spending way more."

Pros: "A few (very few) helpful clerks in the end that got me a seat home."

Cons: "Other than the usual Spirit surprise up charges for basic services included in other airlines (which should be factored into the Kayak search engines more clearly from the start), the seats did not recline and minimal leg room made for a very uncomfortable flight from FL to CA. The topping on the cake was a cancelled flight getting home Ft. Lauderdale to St. Thomas. The 1250pm flight was delayed to 6pm due to weather even though several other flights were flying that same route at that time. Then the 6pm flight was cancelled due to weather. It was the lack of professionalism, accommodations and communications that followed that were horrendous. They would not address the group directly so we had to find out from the people at the front of the line trying to rebook that there were no seats available until Saturday and Sunday. It was Weds. They were not going to accommodate us in any way with the exception of refunding us for that leg. In my case that would have been a little over $100. Flights on other airlines were over $700. Families who could not afford that cancelled their vacations to St. Thomas. People, like myself, that were simply trying to get home got booked on Sunday flights. They put us on stand by but were unwilling to give us seats that were available. Finally, on Friday with making enough fuss and talking to the right people they reluctantly gave us seats. It appeared that because we had seats on Sunday that we were in no way a priority. Very disappointed, mostly for everyone who was trying to visit my island and said they will never come here. Thanks Spirits."

Cons: "I know there a lot of things that can not be fixed by an airplane such as delays or weather issues but when a flight attendant openly states that they turned up the air for one person at the front of the plane but the rest of the plane is uncomfortable freezing this is something that could be adjusted. Very uncomfortable flight that was compounded by sitting on the runway for over an hour an a half after landing due to a gate not being available. Every time I fly spirit I say never again but this time I will pay more for comfort!!"

Cons: "First of all I have never been charged for my carry-on by any other airline, so that was my first big complaint. Not to mention that a charge of $59 for a carry-on is outrageous, especially when they for some reason charge less to check the bag! Second they are the worst on updating you on any changes to your flight whether it was the time or gate location. My flight on the way to Florida was delayed for four hours, and on my return flight they did not help me check in which caused me to miss my initial return flight and almost had the nerve to charge me a fee to book the flight for the next day. The managerial staff is rude and unhelpful, and if it wasn't for the help one good hearted staff member at the counter I'd still be stuck in Florida. Oh and again they changed my gate on the way to FL and on the way back MULTIPLE times! As a matter of fact, I was not told about my gate change for my return flight until the aircraft was about half way boarded! As far as the aircraft itself, the seats are uncomfortable and they even charge you for water. This was the worst flying experience of my life and will never fly this airline again! I hope Spirit goes bankrupt!"

Cons: "Our first flight was delayed by 2 hours and Spirit moved the connecting flight back some. Spirit did not hold the connecting flight. They only have one flight per day going to Santo Domingo. Our flight coming in was the gate beside our next one and instead of delaying by another 15 minutes they closed the doors while we looked at the plane and watched it leave the gate. They did not reimburse and they did not have another available flight to Santo Domingo until 5 days later. We had to spend more money to buy a ticket to get down there."

Cons: "They would not let me check in at 915 for a 955 flight. The airport was not crowded it was a Tuesday night and they would not budge on the fact that I was there 44 mins before not 45 mins. They have a very strict 45 min check in policy. I had to sleep at the airport and then they charged me 100 dollars for changing my flight. It is a scam. I was on line with multiple people who had to pay for their next flight even though there was plenty of time to get to the gate. I will never fly spirit again!"

Pros: "All flights were on time."

Cons: "Where do I begin. This company nickel and dimes you to death. So many extra charges. Charge to check in at airport, charge you to carry on more than a purse or backpack, charge you to pick seats, checked luggage fees are ridiculous and are limited to 50 pounds. Seats wouldn't recline and you had very little leg room. Can't imagine flying in those seats for more that a couple hours. And if you are over weight! Good luck fitting in the seats! They don't even give you water. All food and drinks must be purchased. Our family will avoid this airline in the future."

Pros: "flight was cancelled, next available was delayed due to weather which I understand is not controllable. Was able to book a flight on another airline and was more than halfway home when the Spirit flight took off"

Cons: "Inaccurate information from email alerts stating flight was delayed when it was cancelled. Paying to have an assigned seat is ridiculous! If I buy more than 1 ticket at a time please figure out how to program the seat assigments so everyone sits together. I understand charging a fee for first class, business, class, exit row, ETC. but come on the seats didn't even recline. The personnel were all polite but that doesn't help when the information from them is wrong. I don't care how big a smile you give me or how many times you say I'm sorry."

Pros: "I guess if I were to say anything good about spirit it would be that the boarding went smoothly. I guess? About the same as any other airline."

Cons: "The was my first experience with sprit and will never use this airline again. They say, you get what you pay for. Really? Rude staff included? Both of our flights were overnight flights. People are tired and most of the time are going to try and get comfortable and maybe sleep? No way was that happening with how extremely small this plane was. I am an "average" size 28 year old female and I felt that I couldn't move at all. I can't imagine this flight being comfortable for anyone, of any size. I wasn't going to judge this airline on that alone, but of course, what everyone warns you of, delays. Delays on BOTH flights. So inconvenient for not only us but family members who are planning on picking us up. I will go ahead and remind you that people say, you get what you pay for. We each paid 350, not including the 152 dollars for seat selecting and baggage, and an extra 30 for oversized luggage. Seriously?! That is NOT cheap when compared to delta which allows a FREE carry on, checked bag for 25 bucks, some actual leg room, and a friendly staff. Never again. Super disappointed."

Pros: "The flight crew was nice. Not their fault they have to push to sell everything on the flight. Very uncomfortable. They were pushing from credit cards to expensive food and drinks ($3 sodas). I bough ticket thru another site and nowhere it asked to pay $50 for carry on? I paid when I got to the airport. The sears very tight and uncomfortable. Seats to recline back and if your sleepy forget it, you will never get comfortable unless you pay to get a window seat. The price you pay will be the same as competitor flights at the end after you pay -To check in your carry-on ($55) or luggage ($50). -Pay to choose your seats or they will chose random for free. -pay to buy snacks or soft drinks -they push you credit cards (really) Not with it."

Cons: "Seats are not comfortable. No room at all. No service. Not even a glass of water. Most disturbing was the pilot. He made jokes about New York City that were inappropriate. For example he said "we've landed in New York." Stick em up! " this is not funny at all. In the current climate, I don't think we need any jokes about violence in New York City. New York is a wonderful city and I hope that people appreciate it. I did not find the pilots jokes funny. He also announced that he knows how to handle New Yorkers. What on earth is he talking about? We are melting pot we are city of all different kinds of people. I did not enjoy your stereotyping."

Cons: "Bought a round trip to Florida from LGA and back, had to miss my first flight due to an emergency and ended up heading into Florida two days earlier than planned. The day to come back, I was dealt with in such a rude manner at the Spirit airline desk because they said since I didn't show up for my first flight they canceled my second??? Had to pay YET AGAIN for another ticket back home. I was so furious because the way I was treated, they just canceled my ticket back home even though on my phones email I had the confirmation number for my original ticket and so the amount of time that it took to get another ticket... showed up two hours early and I made it on the plane as the last passenger. Calling Spirit this week to talk about this experience and to get a partial refund one one of the tickets since I paid for 3 full tickets and actually only used two. As someone who is still in school coughing up money for another ticket is completely unfair NOR was this stated on my email ."

Pros: "My flight into florida not bad except I thought the plane was going to shake apart for the first 1/3 of the ride"

Cons: "Some how they did something wrong when they put my information in the computer for my return flight departing from Ft. Lauderdale. I was not able to check in and print my boarding pass ahead of time. I called the customer service line twice to confirm that my reservation was intact even though I could not print the pass. At the airport there was no "bag drop" so everyone from all Spirit flights had to wait in a line that was 2 blocks long (no lie.) It took 45 mins. to get to the counter. Once there no one could seem to figure out what was wrong and it didn't seem to be a priority for them as they were putting out quite a few other fires. I stood at the counter for another 45 mins. They finally were able to print my boarding pass. Thank god I was TSA approved or I would not have made the flight. That did not seem to bother any of their employees. They won't be seeing me again!"

Pros: "Nothing"

Cons: "Aside from awful seats, boarding procedures got for cattle, and Spirit's attempts to make you buy extras while booking(multiple, fervent, attenpts), they have no water on board except for purchase. I asked repeatedly for a cup of the rate substance to wash down a pill-my bag with credit cards was stashed somewhere else, the seatbelt sign was on, and I had a well deserved splitting headache. The answer was "absolutely not". Eventually-I bought a bottle for 3$.thos airline shouldn't be allowed to continue-. Also-the crew was pushing MasterCard applications-promising a certificate of 2500airmiles for completing it. The miles, are, in fact, unusable. Even if I used the card, the fees for booking with miles far exceed the price of the actual ticket."

Pros: "Flight attendants on both flights were very nice."

Cons: "Shortcut security was not honored flying to fll. Was unaware of the so calley "bare fare". I paid almost $300 for my flight just to find out the night before that I had to pay an additional $142 for my seats and bags. Water wasn't even free! Flight was late departing but arrived On time. On the way home I got to the airport 2.5hrs early even though I checked in the night before just to be put in a long line because spirit appeared under staffed. The Spirit agent took our long coiled line and put us outside in a straight line...in the cold and rain! While in line, a Spirit passenger was visibly and audibly crying. A few other passengers including myself tried to help her. We informed a near by agent who also saw the crying woman and told us "it's not my job. She's not my concern." The lack of care and customer service was ridiculous. Not only will I never fly spirit again but I will encourage friends and family to boycott them as well."

Cons: "After a slight parking delay at the airport I made it to the Spirit check-in 43 minutes before departure. Spirit representatives had already left the counter leaving me, my family, and several other passengers who arrived just after me with no ability to get boarding passes. We proceeded to the security area where we could see the Spirit reps who could have easily checked us in at that point. We spoke out to them asking for help but they simply looked down and ignored us. They told the TSA agents they would not come out till after the flight departed. Imagine how frustrating that was to hear. No other airline behaves like this. Later, my request for cancellation and refund was rejected because I missed the 45 minute window. I am out $544. I managed to get a flight with Delta that morning and was treated like royalty by comparison. The Delta flight was almost the same price to boot. Never again Spirit! Not worth saving a few pennies to be treated like that."

Pros: "There was nothing about this experience that was handled well or in any way comfortable."

Cons: "First of all, the flight was delayed by more than 4 hours. Had I been notified of this, I wouldn't have had to get up at 3:30 AM to get to the airport in time. I signed up for the email notifications and am a Free Spirit member- none came. Second of all, the airport was in complete chaos. In fairness, there had been a shooting in terminal 2 the day before, but there was no organization, no one to ask about which line to stand in, etc.. A couple of employees with megaphones would have gone a long way. Third of all, the gate agent boarding the plane was the definition of rudeness and snarkiness. Fourth of all, while boarding the plane, and elderly man became unresponsive and had to be wheeled off the plane. Again, total chaos, no announcements. The man fell out of the wheelchair and expired on the jet bridge- ok, beyond Spirit's control, but the way the gate agent and flight attendants handled this was disgraceful. Fifth of all, we all had to disembark, then line up to board again, then they cancelled out flight. 6th- we were instructed to exit the terminal and rebook at the front desk. People ran like the starting gun had shot at the olympics. When I exited the terminal, we were met with a wall of people- total chaos- no one directing traffic- agents yelling at us- we were finally directed to line up outside in the hot sun (wearing black winter clothes) and proceeded to wait for over 4 hours. I didn't even get close to the desk- I booked a return flight on American for $430 out of Miami because people who were able to reach Spirit via phone (I was on hold for over 2 hours before my phone died) were saying they couldn't get us back to NYC until next week. I have tried unsuccessfully to reach Spirit to refund the money for my carry on bag."

Cons: "I had taken a flight from newark to fort lauderdale and because there was a delay from newark I was late arriving into fort lauderdale. I had asked the staff at the gate in newark what I should do and they reassured me I would make it. I then approached the flight crew and told them my situation and they also reassured me it would be fine but I landed in fort lauderdale and my connecting flight took off. I then had to go from terminal two to terminal three to get a new ticket which Spirit did not pay for or even have. I also had to stay in a hotel that night that was $150 with not even a % off was offered. I understand that weather is not in your control but then the people at the gate and the flight crew should not have given me false hope without even contacting anyone else. I was on the way to see my fiance who is in the U.S. Navy, who had been deployed and I missed his coming home. The only good thing I have to say about Spirit is that your crew in Fort Lauderdale working the tickets were very nice and calm even with the line out the front of the terminal and around the side of the building. This is a problem I ran into every flight of Spirit I have flown, complete under staffing of the ticket lines. I will never fly Spirit again and I will never allow my family to either."

Pros: "Smooth flight after it began."

Cons: "The plane was delayed but no information was given to the crowded waiting passengers. Only after the 8:35 departure time had passed did the updated 9:00 pm time get posted without any announcement nor explanation. At 8:55 the time was again changed to 9:30 pm without announcement. When the boarding commenced there was request for orderly boarding by groups. After the plane was boarded, there was a 10 minute delay and then additional passengers began boarding by dribs and drabs. Finally we did take off and the flight was uneventful. I believe you could have made announcements to explain that there was a necessary delay and this would have allayed the passengers anxiety and allowed a more relaxed boarding process. This is the second flight I took in two day on Spirit and both flights were substantially delayed without any public announcement of the delays. This is less professional than most other airlines' behavior."

Cons: "Spirit has a special way of making you wish you didn't need luggage when you travel. Both going and returning there was at least a 45 minute wait for the luggage at baggage claim. That just adds the insult to the injury of paying over $40 per bag (carry on size) each way. Don't you dare bring that bag to the gate or there will be a $100 dollar charge to carry it on the plane. After paying over $480 per ticket to fly from LGA to Fort Lauderdale. So my family get away to Florida cost nearly $2000 for air fair followed by $240 for my families 3 small bags. No frills = highway robbery. Be sure to bring your own water because that isn't available (for free) either."

Pros: "I arrived."

Cons: "Every time I fly Spirit Airlines, I swear I'll never do it again. Then I see the low fares and I say "okay, just one more time." This experience was another leg in that cycle. A low fare, a "one more time," and a fierce "oh hell no--never again." When I arrived at the airport, the ticket counter looked like a flea market. It was absolutely mobbed. My flight was departing in about an hour, and one woman in line had already been waiting for 2.5 hours. Since Spirit Airlines does not participate in the mobile boarding pass process (FOR SOME INANE GODFORSAKEN BULLSHIT REASON), I still had to check in and get my boarding pass. And since two other Spirit flights had recently been cancelled, the ticket counter line was a trainwreck. An utter mass of dispirited humanity, waiting, ironically enough, at a counter called "Spirit." I managed to maneuver my way through, and with several strokes of luck and a possible intervention from God, I left the sad zoo of passengers behind me and made it through security, to the gate, and into the boarding line, with my idiotic paper boarding pass. As you might imagine, I was somewhat rushed and a touch flustered, though grateful to be en route to my destination. I was thirsty though, a combination of the morning's odyssey, the recycled cabin air, and this human need to hydrate that we share with literally every living thing on the planet. So I waited patiently for the pilot to extinguish the "seatbelt" sign, walked up to the flight attendants and politely asked for a glass of water. "That will be $3.00," she said. I paused for a moment. Surely there must be a mistake. I wanted water. Not coffee or tea or lemonade or a cocktail. Just a glass of water. This is how I came to realize that access to something that is a biological necessity for survival--that I would be granted gratis almost anywhere else--costs, on Spirit Airlines. Only those with access to a functioning credit card will be served water. Now I understand that keeping costs down is the only way this poor excuse for an airline stays in business. Every one of its passengers is there as a personal compromise, dodging hidden fees for "legroom" and seat selection and peanuts at every turn to get to their location without selling their souls to the corporate demons who've re-vamped the age-old "bait and switch" and call it a bargain. But if Spirit persists in being a seething mess of a nightmare of a preposterous front of a business, and if their customers continue to play along and manage to navigate the utter catastrophe of a process it can become to reach a destination via Spirit Airlines, one might believe that once they sit down in their unassigned (unless you're willing to pay an additional $14 each way) se"

Pros: "The crew on the plane and the crew at the gate at FLL were courteous and helpful."

Cons: "The gate crew at BWI as we prepared to board for FLL was just downright awful. They treated customers more like juvenile deliquents on the way to a prison than valued customers. I have never been treated in such a manner while flying. The person at the gate basically berated all of us, very sternly telling people to consolidate their personal items. Then she said, "if you have a carry on with wheels and you're not in Zone 1, you need to come up here and pay $65. If you don't, we'll charge you $100 on the flight." As a first time traveler with Spirit Airlines, I couldn't believe they charged that amount for a carry on. At first, I thought it was a joke, but when I went to the counter, sure enough, they charged me $65. I asked why anyone would ever travel with Spirit Air given all these hidden fees for regular travel practices (like bringing a carry on), she shrugged and rudely mumbled, "I don't know." Then she told families with small children to 'feel free boarding in Zone 2'. I was traveling alone, but I felt that was a ridiculous policy. However, I noticed on the return leg from FLL to BWI, they allowed families with small children to board first. Then when I got onto the plane from BWI to FLL, I had a window seat with no window. I've never even seen that before. I felt a bit chlaustrophobic, and I never feel that way. The only reason I didn't give the 'crew' a score of poor, is because the crew on the plane to FLL and the full spectrum of crew on the return trip, from the crew working the gate at FFL to the crew on the plane back to BWI was excellent. But what I experienced as a customer with the crew in BWI, from check in to the gate was outrageous. The check-in for Spirit Airlines is one of the most chaotic I've ever experienced. There was no signage for what to do, and there was a guy at BWI yelling at people to stand in particular lines, causing people with luggage to basically stampede over one another. What in the hell is Spirit Airline's customer experience strategy? How do they want customers to feel about the airline and themselves as they travel with the airline? Because I actually felt worse about myself during the entire experience. Even though the crew on both planes were great and the gate crew at FLL was great, I will never fly Spirit Airlines again. The 'less money. more go' slogan is a sham, considering I ended up paying way more than I would have with another airline while doing the same thing (bringing on a carry-on). Where's my incentive to fly with them after being treated so poorly at check in and at the gate and then paying more than I would have with American or Delta or United or Southwest or JetBlue? As a director of customer experience at my company, this was a wonderful example of what we do not want to be. In that, I can thank Spirit Airlines."

Pros: "Board flight. Fly to destination. I love the no frills, low luggage, easy on and easy off of this airline. My biggest feeling of stress on flights is the drink service. The cart is always blocking the bathroom, you are thinking of what free beverage you want the entire first hour, you spill some of it, then you have trash for the second hour of the flight. It's literally the worst part of flying other than the endless fear of death and facing your mortality with every hint of turbulence. This airline and others like it are amazing. No stress of awkwardly bothering your aisle mates with getting in and out when they just got a comp. cola. and you feel like you have to wait until they're done before you can go to the bathroom. Half the anxiety of flying is alleviated for me personally. Love this airline."

Pros: "The promptness of departure"

Cons: "My bag was lost. I would say this has to be because of the complete chaos that was occurring the FLL airport at the checking for spirit air. Once in Akron and I realized my bag didn't make it - I was welcomed with a headache. At first the person in charge of the situation was very short and unapologetic. Then they told me I would have to pick up my bag at the airport - which is an hour away. The time in which I could do so during the day was unrealistic for someone who works full time - so they said I could come back between 9pm and midnight. Totally ridiculous. Fortunately I spoke to someone nice the next day who arranged to have my bag brought to me."

Pros: "I liked the cabin crew and the pilot."

Cons: "I didn't like the experience up to the point where I got on the plane. First the flight was delayed, these things happen though so I wasn't that upset about it. Then we got there an hour and forty minutes before departure and waited in line for baggage for an hour only to be told we were in the wrong line. Then we were directed to the correct line and waited another 20 minutes for baggage. Thankfully there wasn't a line for the security check and we made it to the gate with 5 minutes to spare. Needless to say we will never be flying this airline again."

Pros: "Not much good to say about this. We didn't crash and we did arrive on time. That's it."

Cons: "Firstly, I arrived at the airport 2 hours before my scheduled departure. For whatever reason there were some 400 people in line for the bag drop (200 in line, and 200 more in the pre-line which I sh!t you not was a thing) and since spirit always takes 15 minutes a person for this process that should take 15 seconds I barely managed to finish up by the time my plane was boarding. Of course I was then told my flight would be departing from a different terminal and had to sprint to make it by the time the door was about to close. And I doubt I need to bring up the uncomfortable and cramped conditions found on every spirit flight (though they were particularly unbearable for a flight of this length) but here we are. Since my attemp to arrive early and buy dinner in the airport had been thwarted by spirits incredibly slow line system, I starvingly decided to buy a snack box. This consisted of almonds, fruit snacks, crackers and a mint that were fine, as well as cheese spread that was the consistency of water and Oreos that were somehow soggy. In case the hangry tone of this review doesn't give it away, I'm was left very dissatisfied by this BS waste of money. Spirit airlines MAY save you a couple of bucks (only if you buy your bags online ahead of time and maybe not even then), but they will probably cause you severe mental trauma and may shorten your life by 4-6 years."

Cons: "I spent a lot of time troubleshooting my entire experience with Spirit Airlines from start to finish. Kayak makes purchasing a ticket easy. However, after you get the bulk of my money, things change drastically. Spirit Airlines is deceptive – they trick you into thinking you have a good deal buying a ticket. Then you end up spending money on things you don’t normally have to pay for making it even more expensive than a normal airline AND it’s a much more annoying experience. My first problem was trying to purchase bags a few days before my flight. Spirit’s website consistently gives me an error after I put in my payment, and this isn’t the first time. I figured out after two error messages that their site doesn't play nicely with Chrome's autofill. On my third attempt, it told me I had bags but that I couldn’t print my boarding pass unless I called customer service. Calling Spirit’s customer service hotline was the most bizarre, irritating, and time-consuming experience I've ever had. They are clearly trying to frustrate people and make it difficult for them to reach an actual human being. They even state that explicitly. When I did finally reach a human being, she was shouting at me like a drunk person and I found her to be patronizing. You should know that at the end of the conversation, she read her good-bye script and hung up on me without waiting for my response. Classy. For my return trip from Fort Lauderdale, I arrived two hours before my departure yesterday morning at 6AM and was directed to stand in an obscenely long line that OUTSIDE in TERMINAL 4 in the DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA WHERE PASSENGERS ARE DROPPED OFF. We are forced to stand in line and inhale exhaust from cars and cigarette smoke from the smokers smoking in the designated smoking area AND the exhaust from cars. I have asthma and have been experiencing issues all day. It is obviously irresponsible and unthoughtful Spirit to place customers in a designated smoking area as they wait to check in but IT IS ALSO ILLEGAL. I am without health insurance and if I require medical attention to restore normal breathing patterns, I will be asking Spirit Airlines to cover that expense. I would like a full refund from Spirit Airlines."

Cons: "Nothing!!! It was horrible, I got to the airport at 5:30. am tried to print my ticket, computer send me to the counter I ask for help the lady tried to print the ticket she couldn't so I went to ask another lady she told me to get on the line by this time it was 6:00 am it was a long line by the time I got to the counter it was 6:30 and the flight was at 7:00 am then I got kicked out from the line for no having the ticket so I lost my flight and the money, I end up buying another ticket with American Airlines, never again with spirit never."

Cons: "Again, same as first flight. I haven't flown with Spirit in a long time. I forgot the reason I don't is because ticket prices may be low but you pay for literally everything which makes the prices pretty much equal to Delta or any other better airline. It was only comfortable because I paid so much extra for seats. If I buy a ticket, seat number should be included. Kinda common sense on that one. What food? I had to pay for it if I wanted a meal. A flight this long should have included a meal. I had the extra task of making sure I already had a meal with me upon boarding. Ummm......there was no entertainment either."

Pros: "as a flight it was fine."

Cons: "the charge for seat, without explanation the carry on charge, or the unclear explanation on the web as to how Spirit charges for bags it overall seemed as if the base flight price was baiting, and then during the process Spirit would tack on multiple charges and end up being the same price as all the other major airlines. no TSA pre Check I was discouraged by the seemingly deceptive pricing and webpage layout as to pricing. It just doesn't seem overly honest (it was honest though) the presentation seemed to veil the true prices as if Spirit won't be up front with who they are as an Airline or what they REALLY charge."

Pros: "Nothing except the price of the airfare."

Cons: "The entire trip from beginning to end was the worst experience ever. If you absolutely have to take this airline, be sure to look up baggage information before traveling. I spent over $130 before even getting through security just on luggage. Our flight was delayed due to no air conditioning on the plane but they later said it was due to traffic control so that they wouldn't have to compensate us. All in all I was not able to catch a flight until eight hours later. Trying to get compensation and sort out our flight arrangements after being delayed was the worst experience as well. The airport supervisor/Spirit airline supervisor was not even able to help us, they ended up calling airport security and police due to the rowdiness of people not getting any help. Not only was it difficult getting help at the airport but going to the last resort of calling the airline was no better. Every representative barely spoke English and would not put a supervisor on the phone. I called three times in a matter of the eight hours and still was not able to speak to a supervisor nor a US representative. I will never fly with them again and I suggest the same for everyone else. I really hope our reviews from that day is widely broadcasted, and taken into consideration. SpirtAirlines, FortLauderdale departure."

Pros: "Unfortunately, I was not aware of Spirits business model or I would have been better prepared - the fairly well priced flight I got for my child and I were offset by having to pay OVER $100 for 2 CARRY on bags (that's right... Not checked but CARRY ON SIZED BAGS!! Low number of employees had lines everywhere and chaotic check in do to majority surprised by bag fees! Seats do not recline - no entertainment screens very "low budget". The advertising campaign is cute and makes the "no frills" look hip, but very tough cross country flight for us."

Pros: "Nothing"

Cons: "I did not like the fact that I get to the airport , lines were crazy the spirit staff in the airport were very rude. I went to pay for my baggage a staff member pulled me out of line and said no you need a boarding pass first so I go get my boarding pass at the kiosk then I go to pay for my bags and the person wanted to charge me $55 dollars for a carry on bag ( now this flight...all of the over head compartments were empty that should tell you something right there that your airline is a rip off) I said I thought they were $35 she said oh that's before you get a boarding pass, so your employees in the airport are setting your customers up so they have to pay more I would love a response I have never had any issues with any other airlines I could keep writing about everything even to how nasty the flight attendants were unless something is done and I am compensated in some way I will never fly spirit again after this trip and will make sure my company never books a flight for any employee on spirit"

Pros: "The only good thing I can say is that we were on time."

Cons: "Unfortunately my flight with Spirit was one of the most inconvenient unpleasant and most disappointing flight experiences I have ever had. Before I bought the ticket I made sure that my carry on bag fits the requirements for the free personal item carry on. I get to the airport and apparently my bag was one inch too big because the handle was sticking out of the grey line an inch and I had to go back to the baggage drop off and pay for an extra carry on bag. Since a carry on bag is more expensive than an actually checked suitcase, I obviously checked my bag. Where do you pay more for carry on's than checked in luggages? Either way needles to say I could have packed an actually suitcase in the first place since I ended up checking my bag. Finally on the plane the crew was very unfriendly and unprofessional. They chit chatted and were busy fixing their hair, while passangers boarded. Didn't look right or left to say hi and greet people. As I made my way all the way to the back where I was sitting I have noticed that the aircraft was covered in bread crumbles and cookies on the floor and seats from the flight before. I cleaned my seat and sat down. Security instructions... nobody cared that the window shields had to be open for take off and landing nore that passengers were having tabletts and purses on their laps. The backrests weren't in an upright position at all. Next thing the pilot did not really speak that great of an english so that the flight attendant had to repeat what he said in order for us to understand it. She announced that all drinks need to be paid for including water coffee and tea. Wow... what an amazing flight. Never again, and I can definitely not recommand this airline to anyone else. Tickets are not cheaper than others the airport is very inconvenient and you have to pay seperatly for everything else which makes it more and more expensive and in the end you don't save at all but actually pay way more than jetblue for example for a poor service and dirty planes. I am evry disapointed well, rather furious I paid so much money and had to check in a personal item that is supposed to be free online."

Cons: "Previous flight delayed, caused extreme stress to get to this flight! Got through customs and border protection, very long process and our bags were not at the baggage claim yet! Had to wait over 30 minutes for our bags. If Spirit charges for every bag, they should provide better baggage service! Had to wait in another long line to show our passports. Then run to recheck our bags. Spirit offered no assistants at all to speed this process up. As we are trying to check our bag they are starting to load the plane and we have to go through TSA yet! again another long process. We made it to our flight just in time. But I was completely sweated and stressed out! These flights originally had a three and a half hour layover scheduled between flights."

Pros: "Every time I fly with Spirit they seem to single me out and try to make me pay $100.00 dollars for a Cary on witch here's a perfect example my husband flys with Spirit all the time and I decided to take his personal bag for my flight to Chigago so no one will aggravate me but guess what they still did I can't win with Spirit I don't know why they do that to me maybe I just look to good to be in their airline or to rich I can't explain it but it's sad that they should have better managers to handle Thair passengers better my biggest complaint would be when u flew out of Atlantuc city with my husband and son headed to Dallas and was stopped at the entrance of the gate boarding the plane the manager in charge asked me to pay $100.00 dollars for the carry on I explained that there were 5 things in the personal item but he still continued to argue with me my husband and son boarded the flight with bigger bags thAn I had but I didn't want to couse trouble for anyone else on that flight si I decided to ask a vendor near by if he had a plastic bag that I can have to put my pijamas and a change of clothing that I had so that's what I did and left my carry on witch meant so much to me be couse my grandmother had gave it to me when I was young so I really tried to complain to spirit back in October 15th 2015 but it was impossible to get to someone who listens anyway I can't stand spirit after that but I still fly with them not couse they are good or nice they suck but they are with in my budget when I need to fly so don't expect anything for nothing from Spirit I don't ! Ps I'm sure if someone of authority sees this revew can look through your computers and see that what I said was all true and I'm sure they have camaras at the Airport that you can review and see what I said was true ."

Pros: "The aircrew, flight attendants and pilots, were very good. The aircraft are new."

Cons: "Customer service at the gate was horrible. The baggage policy is different than any airline I've ever flown... Which is fine if you understand it. But since this was my first flight with spirit, I wanted to make sure. After many threatening announcements of a $100 charge if your ONE allowable item is too big, I went to counter to see if my backpack was of appropriate size, When I approached the podium to verify I was ok, the two gate agents were talking so I stood and waited to be helped. After several minutes, one finally looked over, with a very annoyed expression and asked, " Do you need something?" (Actual quote) I asked my question, which was answered with equal distain and then I was dismissed and the agent returned to her conversation. Throughout the entire trip, it felt as if the ground crew were there to herd you on and off the aircraft... That's it... They were completely unapproachable. My recommendation? Spend the few dollars more and go with another carrier... If you do choose to fly Spirit, set your expectations very low and then you'll only be slightly disappointed."

Cons: "Spirit has a 40 lb limit on checked bags, instead of the usual 50 lb limit. I had to carry loose dive gear on the plane in my arms, which did not save them any weight on the plane, just a huge inconvenience to me. Also baggage in expensive for both checked and carry on , $50/$55 each. Also the check in process was quite slow at Fort Lauderdale. I had my seat assignment and baggage receipt , and it still took the agents about five minutes per person , multipled by everyone on board."

Pros: "The best part of this flight is that the boarding agent switched my seat at the last minute. I had been talking with a gentleman inline and we were getting along fabulously. When it came time to board, I told him it was nice talking but we were on opposite sides of the plane. The woman taking our tickets said "Let me fix that". I usually fly a different airline and prefer that other airline in every other way, but THIS was the best case of customer service I have ever received from any airline personnel."

Cons: "By the time we landed, my back was sore. Really uncomfortable seats. This is Spirit so I expected that there would not be any free water or snacks, yet that is still disappointing."
