Reads like poorly written fanfiction

Published by Kate , 1 month ago

I saw all the hype for this fantasy YA book series on Pinterest and couldn't wait to dive into this first book. However, I was totally disappointed. It was really gruelling to get through, and I mean I literally was forcing myself through it to the end to try and see what it was everyone loved about this book. Now it wasn't awful, but I definitely wouldn't say it was good either. It was very similar to reading through a piece of fanfiction that, has potential, but is poorly written. (That's coming from someone who has read lots of fanfiction over the years.) I've since looked through all the negative reviews on Amazon and they all pinpoint it very well. I think this book gets such high reviews, likely from very young female readers who are just entering the romance/fantasy genre for the first time and cannot tell yet what good writing actually is. I know that sounds harsh, but I honestly didn't like the book and don't recommend it to others. (Especially not younger readers for the explicit content.)

Blah at first, great by the end!

There’s a lot of world building in the beginning which is to be expected, but the first chunk of the book seemed slow and cheesy. The second half of the book turned it around for me though, and it really sets up the second book nicely. The books in this series are 500+ pages that go by pretty quickly!

Oh. My. God. Read This!

LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! I made the terrible mistake of starting it right before finals week because this is not the kind of book you can put down. I would speed walk back from classes just to be able to sit down to read this book. The story is definitely beauty and the beast but it isn't just that as it has a greater plot that is absolutely enthralling. The characters are all well defined and the main character, Feyre, is an absolute joy to read. The second I finished this book was the second I put it on my top 5 favorite book list.

This book is trash

Are y'all ok? The storytelling in this is garbage. The villain is a cartoon character. The protagonist is an idiot with Bella Swan syndrome. The whole entire plot makes no sense and is so poorly constructed. Why is this popular? It's not good???

Holy cow. This was so good! I couldn't put it down! Since ordering this less than 2 months ago, I'm already on book #3. So. Stinking. Good!!!!! I love the magical world. I love the way Maas describes struggle, heart ache, wonder, fear, joy, hardship ..all of it. You're there with Feyre.

This book had me hooked and pulled me out of a reading rut. I'm so hooked with all the characters and the author has become one of my favorites overnight. Definitely recommend.

This was my first book that was a fantasy genre. I kept seeing this book everywhere and finally read it and OMG. This was so great I couldn’t put it down. I read it in about two days and then purchased the rest of the books in the series. So glad I read this!

It was okay

This book is definitely a beauty and the beast retelling. The girl has serious Stokholm syndrome. The love seemed so force.

Everything about this book is perfect, from beginning to end! Real page turner, and I loved every bit of it. I cannot say a bad thing about this book. This is definitely one of the best books I have ever read and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series.

02/2021 How i missed so many red flags with this book. Flags that should have told me what was to come in the next book. And SJM is queen of foreshadowing. I don't know if it's because I've read the entire series or what, but I really don't like this book as much as I do the other one. Mostly because nothing happens until like 100 pages from the end. And feyre is a little annoying in this one. Great world building and foreshadowing if you really look.

Great Start to a Series that Keeps Getting Better

Published by Maggie , 1 year ago

I am writing this review after my third read of the book, and yup, I still love this book and probably even more than I did before. I remember the first time I read it and being SO sure that I knew where the story was going, and boy was I wrong. In my reread, I can't believe I didn't see what was really coming! This story is so entertaining and easy to read, but be ready for all the feelings!

A wonderful story for trying times

There is nothing like a new world to disappear to. With the inaugural book of this series, Maas builds a world one can simply immerse oneself in. Her characters come to life to tell a story that is engaging, mind-boggling and absolutely stunning. The world becomes your own. The characters your friends. It's not a read you'll regret!

Could Not Put it Down!

This was the first Sarah J. Maas book I ever read and it got me hooked. This series is unbelievably riveting. I finished all four books within a week. If you’re a YA fan, then I highly suggest adding this to your collection. Once you’re done, start on SJM’s Throne of Glass series. You will not be disappointed!!

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a must read after TOG

Published by Bri_Bee , 3 years ago

If you have read anything by Sarah J Maas before, then read on!!! This series is separate from everything that went on in the Throne of Glass series, but gives a sense of nostalgia and love of old characters turned to new again. This book follows Feyre after a hunt gone wrong, and delves deep into the wonderful and horrible world of the Fae beyond the wall. Watch her learn of the world and discover more than what meets the eye.

Entertaining But Too Much Graphic Sex I enjoyed the character growth in this book over the first in the series and the discoveries that the characters make, but this book it does have a lot of GRAFIC sex scenes that I would not recommend for the under 18 crowd.
