It is under the hood, passenger side, behind the battery, mine had a cap on it it's L shaped they didn't make OBDII the standard plug until 96 so you will need the correct adapter for the Chrysler OBDI plug.

Jeepman1919,
Does your scanner have a plug that looks like a trapezoid? If so, it will not work on your '95. That would be an OBD-II scanner for vehicles 96+ only. The scanner needed for your '95 is usually fairly expensive. All you have to do is put your key in the ignition, then (w/o actually starting the engine) go "on-off-on-off-on" within a 5-second period. Then watch your "Check Engine" light. It will flash a series of numbers, such as 1 flash, pause, 2 flashes, pause, 5 flashes, pause, 5 flashes, pause. Google the "Chrysler Key Dance" to learn more...

You have to plug in a scan tool with the proper OBD1 Chrysler connector. You can buy adapters like this one to connect an OBD2 device to an OBD1 Chrysler port, but your scan tool needs to understand OBD1 protocols.

generally speaking the scanners that can read obd1 also come with the connectors... prices for obd1 scanners seem to start around $150

There are a *lot* of different OBD1 connectors though, so if you're buying an OBD1-capable scanner, you need to make sure that a specific Chrysler adapter is included. One probably will be, but it's not guaranteed.

Can somebody please tell me where the diagnostic port is on my Jeep? GC Laredo with 4.0, 2wd. I have borrowed a Cornwell Tools Tech/Force diagnostic computer but can't find the dang port to plug it in! Tranny is still giving me problems. Please help! Chad

the one for the engine is under the hood by the pcm but the trans one is in the car kind of behind the dash by the ashtray.it should be blue.it might be under the carpet but it should be on the driver side

Dash panels are now half torn apart and still nothing! The only thing I can find around the ashtray is 2 small black plugs and coax cable for the integrated mobile phone that was removed when we bought it. I have a cord with plug for the "Chrysler" diagnostic port but nothing looks remotely like it. The owner of the Diag computer said his Chrysler car plug was around the ashtray area in the lower center dash area. Well, I guess I will go look again......Thanks! Chad

OK first things first, is the diagnosis computer for OBDII or does it work on any chrysler vehicle. you have a 95, ODBII is for 96 and later vehicles.

Like XJ said it is located in the center of the vechiles under dash blue 6 point connector for ABS, Body Module, Trans. and Air bag. The Diagnostic connector for the engine PCM is Under the hood Drivers side fender. Some Chryslers only had the blue diagnostic connector. Iam not sure about Jeeps but some vechiles in 95 were OBD11 usally the ones made in latter half of year. Should say under Hood. If OBD11 only have the one Diagnostic port under steering wheel.

Thanks guys. After spending the afternoon studying the diagnostic computer and doing the tutorial I learned a few things. There is a 6 pin pigtail coming out of the PCM which I found a diag cable for. Ran the PCM diag and no codes (as expected). One connector under the ashtray is a 6 pin of which I found another cable (named Chrysler III) that would plug into that. The other connector is a 2 prong and both are BLACK. This Cornwell computer has no capabilities for the trans test but did offer a wealth of detailed written diagnostic problems and fixes - most importantly the transmission governor transducer problem. At this point I have just about determined changing the Governor pressure solenoid and transducer are my next steps unless somebody else has any ideas. Thanks! Chad

the transducer is a pretty common item.what problems are you having?

Hey XJ,

I Have another post in here on that subject but basically "no shift out of 1st gear until 38 mph". EXTREMELY repetitive situation. I'll keep you guys informed when fixed. Chad

Does a 95 Jeep Cherokee have OBD2?

A 8/95 build date would be a '96 year model XJ. ALL '96 model year vehicles, of whatever make, sold in the US were required to be OBD-II.

You will find below several pictures which will help you find your OBD connector in your car..

Does a 1994 Jeep Cherokee have OBD2?

The 94 is OBD1. It has three diagnostic connectors. The engine one is next to the PCM, under the hood on the passenger side. The brake one is above the gas pedal.
