Have a question I was hoping you guys could help with. I have a 2014 6 speed with about 33k miles. I've owned for the last 14 month and 9k miles. I noticed recently that when the longer I drive, the transmission gets more difficult to shift. Especially reverse and 6th gear.

Have any of you seen or heard of this type of issue?

I'm guessing you mean the 6 speed manual since the auto is a 6 speed too lol. Jk, I know what you mean. Lots of documented issues with the MT82 manual trans in these cars. Shifter, spring, braided clutch line and mount insert are kinda required items...

This is what they say about fluid on that site Guard 5.0.......first I ever heard about using ATF in an MT-82??:nonono:

MT82 Transmission Fluid Type
Hits: 6589
(ATF) is used in the MT82 Manual Transmission

Fill till you spill. About 3 Pints of ATF

DO NOT USE Royal Purple

Checking and adding manual transmission fluid

(Please note diagram below)
1. Clean the filler plug. It is located
on the passenger side of the
transmission.
2. Remove the filler plug and
inspect the fluid level.
3. Note: For vehicles equipped with a V6 engine, the correct manual
transmission fill level is at the lower edge of the filler hole. For vehicles
equipped with a V8 engine, the correct manual transmission fill level is
1/2 inch (1.3 cm) below the edge of the filler hole.
4. Add enough fluid through the filler opening to bring the fluid up to
the recommended levels.
5. Install and tighten the fill plug securely.

The MT82 transmission is almost enough reason to buy a Camaro. The person at Ford who designed it should be fired along with the person who keeps putting them in Mustangs. I am on my 2nd MT82 and have not been happy with either of them. I test drove the new 18 with the redesigned MT82 and promptly ordered an 18 Mustang with an automatic in it; I was not impressed with the improved MT82. I hated to spend an additional $1,595 for the automatic but that is how much I hate the MT82. Why Ford will not put a good transmission in the Mustang is beyond me, they put a good one in the GT350, not the crappy MT82. For all the aftermarket parts you have to add to the MT82 to make it shift smoothly we could have paid to have a Tremec transmission, like the GT350 has, put in as a factory option. Come on Ford, give us an option for a good transmission in the GT.

I'm very happy with my MT-82....it was even OK with the crappy Ford shifter!!

28k miles with my MGW shifter and it shifts very smoothly and quickly.......would have put an MGW on any trans Ford uses since it is such a precision piece that works flawlessly and practically impossible to break!!:thumb::thumb:

Not sure which models but I've heard plenty of complaints about crappy shifts with Tremecs too!!:whistling:

The XL is a true toploader but that's aftermarket. I dunno even the T56s in the early GT500s had issues. I honestly think the remote garbage shifter and non-braided OEM clutch assemblies in these cars plus all the crap to get rid of almost all NVH for the jackasses who buy 400+hp sports cars and then complain about harsh ride are more to blame than anything.

Damn it...I read about it across different forums and went with RR on the last fluid flush. What problem will it cause by putting royal purple in mt82?

Damn it...I read about it across different forums and went with RR on the last fluid flush. What problem will it cause by putting royal purple in mt82?

I put RP SyncroMax in my 15 and put 35k miles on it with this fluid. A very much improved shift quality over the stock fluid.

I have seen tests on RP motor that it is no better than other Synthetics that cost a lot less but have never heard any data that would indicate that there is anything wrong with it.

Careful what you call "girly", there's a new female member on the forum who could probably outdrive most of us lol. Not to mention I've known more than a few women who could drive the hell out of a stick shift.

Actually two of the few people on 4 wheels that keeps up with me on the the Tail of The Dragon are Girls, one was in a Subbie and the other was in a Mazdaspeed3 :hide: :whistling:

Get the MGW Race Spec or don't get a shifter. Period. Whiteline insert, Steeda spring. Braided line is kind of hard to screw up but it is SR.... SR products are pretty crap just FYI.

RP makes good fluids... but there are a lot of... "documents" that show that some of the additives can **** up a transmission's blocker rings etc... Have I ever seen anything official? No. RP oil is really really good but... not needed unless you are actually out racing often.

SO SORRY.....I meant no harm but the New Fords are far from "Gnarly" like my '66 Cobra Replica was!!

It felt rough and rugged and you could probably drive circles around it too.......but it just felt MEAN.....so different than my 2014 GT!!

You have to keep in mind that Ford is in the business of selling cars to make a profit. The cars they produce have to meets the needs and wants of the biggest slice of the market. Silence and smoothness sells cars. As much as people talk about performance when it gets right down to it the vast majority will ***** much more about a car that has NVH issues than one that has a shifter that is balky under agressive driving.

The GT350 is a perfect example. Here is a very track oriented performance car and people that bought them to drive are *****ing about the level of NVH that comes with a flat plane crank. There is a reason that they stopped putting flat plane cranks in v8s in the 50's, it's called NVH.

Yeah but the direct port Coyote is so damn good... For a driver it would be hard to go with the 350 over the 2018 GT. Now... if you are talking about going to a circle course a lot then yeah. But... MT82 with the fixes in place with a warranty I wouldn't worry about it too much. Or just get the auto... Or get the MT82 and if it sucks and warranty doesn't get it where you want it then get a Magnum XL/RXT setup for $4k and you are into it for $35k with the base model GT costing $31k. Still half the price of a 350.
